who makes splittable/packable handlebars?
 

Bike Friday has had these available for some time,

But these aren't very price friendly, what was $50 is now $69.

Is there any competition? Exactly the same idea: split at the center, a shim covers both sides.

Also, ready-made road style bars with 26,0mm clamp diameter, or other styles of bars (trekking, moustache, etc).

One can undo the stem clamp and remove the bar from the stem, but often with bigger handlebars, this doesn't help trying to weave everything into 1 suitcase.

You need to understand that Bike Friday builds the drop bar versions from standard over the counter bars. What you are paying for is the bar and the time of someone to do the conversion. You also need a wider stem where the bar goes through to clamp both sides of the bar so it stays secure. Roger

I believe the answer is "no."

I could have assumed this before asking the question - maybe something will come up.

Short time, 1rst time, as they say in talk radio.

Last year I sent in 4 sets of bars to have BF split them for me. iirc, it was $20 a bar. I think the only caveat was BF would not split bars that looked sketchy and possibly dangerous to ride.

Those are a nice lock ...... I wish they would put abetter locking cylinder in there though .. that one opens with a bic ...

Humpert in Germany makes a foldable handlebar ...for beaucoup money though

The folding flat bar is pretty slick.... It's also just a design prototype. No one is even trying to produce it yet, as far as I can tell.

And with the integrated lock, I'm guessing it will cost a tad more than $50. If it ever gets made.

Whether you supply them or we do that for you, make any 1"/25.4mm clamp diameter handlebar (sorry - carbon excluded) work with your Bike Friday. We'll remove your old handlebars, split and shim the new handlebars, and install them on the bike with fresh bar tape. Price does not include cost of bars. Be aware that not all bars can be split.

Our Bike Fridays are a bargain to modify or replace parts on vs. our 1974 Alfa Romeo (purchased NEW in 1975).

I realize that $50 is a lot of money when you have very limited funds, but if you are riding a bike when you travel, you are saving a bunch vs. renting a car, especially in a foreign country.

i think you can make em yourself without too much hassle...
