If it was me I would call Bike Friday at their toll free number. They are your friend. Roger

This handmade folding cro-
moly rear rack will securely
carry your travel gear any-
where in the world. Plus, it
folds quickly and compactly
for easy packing in your
TravelCase.

That's from the BF Rack Manual. That indicates that it's intended to come off and be folded before packing. I have NWT and the folding rack. I doubt I could pack the bike in the Samsonite case with the rack on.

I haven't packed my NWT in a suitcase - in fact I don't own a suitcase! However, you can see the two Bike Friday racks on my New World Tourist above and the same racks are packed flat in the orange bags below [front rack on left - rear rack on right] - they are quite compact and should easily fit into a suitcase or shipping box.

The rack is meant to come off to be packed. Because of it's height (to keep your heels from hitting the load) it adds considerable size to the bike.

It's a great rack, but one caution: Be sure and tighten ALL the screws when mounting it on your bike, including the four black screws that hold it together. I learned the hard way on an organized community ride in Portland when my rack came apart about 1/2 way through the ride. I was able to re-place the remaining screws to put it back together so I could finish the ride sans the one screw that had gone by-by.

As Vik shows, it packs very flat for travel, transport or storage.

Thanks for the answer, maybe I will get one of the bike friday back racks, but I don t know if the are so good like the tubus racks...

From what I can see, the Tubus racks do NOT fold flat like the Bike Friday rack does. In addition, The BF rack is priced about the same as the lower end Tubus racks.

Since we travel with our Bike Friday's mounted on a board with QR's in our SUV, or just folded and tossed in our TOYOTA Yaris Liftback, I really appreciate space saving items like the folding racks. I always pack one in our bike tool/accessory bag - easy, since it folds so flat (that's a bag we carry with us in the SUV, not on the bikes).
