Pantour front wheel update - Jetstream XP

My Jetstream XP had the front Pantour suspension hub go bad on me. The bike was okay when I got it but the guy who rode it before me probably weighed 140 soaking wet. So when I started pounding on it the weaker elastomer material probably had it bottoming out.

After it went bad I did some research and just read terrible things about Pantour customer service. But I didn't have anywhere much else to turn. I wanted the stronger elastomer and also a warranty repair as the bike was just less than 1 year old.

I'm here to tell you that I had no problem with Pantour. I sent the wheel to them on Christmas eve here in Japan and then promptly ordered a Kinetix Comp wheel from Dahon which I thought I'd get in a week which would hold me over in case Pantour responded slowly or not at all.

Yesterday both wheels arrived at the same time. Which stinks because I would have never had to order the regular wheel from Dahon.

The silver lining here is that I bought a Speed P8 locally and the front wheel wasn't round and the brakes chattered on it. I took the wheel back to them and they only make it round where the brakes ride. The wheel is not round along the circumference.

So I put the Kinetix wheel on my Speed P8 and finally it's right again. Now I can take the first wheel and have it rebuilt and use it for a spare if the Pantour hub fails again.

Anyway, I'm back up to a full complement of bikes at last. Time to go wear them out again.

John
