What do you like better about the Singlenator? I've got a Rohloff tensioner on my Surly Big Dummy and like it quite a lot - very well made.

Generally speaking I wouldn't use a single pulley tensioner like the Singlenator in push down mode as it doesn't give you as much chain wrap on the rear cog. This will result in slipping when you start to wear the drivetrain. The Rohloff double pulley tensioner is much better in this regard.

If you use the Singlenator in push up mode you get lots of chain wrap just like the Rohloff tensioner and a much lower profile drivetrain. However, you need to loosen the tensioner to get the rear wheel off.

The Singlenator will work fine in the push down mode until the drivetrain gets worn and you put some decent torque on the pedals - like climbing a hill - then it will slip. At that point you just need to replace the chain & rear cog to get back to new performance. With the Rohloff tensioner you'll be able to run the drivetrain components much longer before needing to replace them.

vik I think I don t understand, you also have it on your Bike Friday, and remember I asked to you?so how long you think will last how many km,with the rohloff tensioner I need to change the chainand the sprocket wheel every 3500km
It s not posible (the singlenator)to put it like in your bike the ares not place it s touching the frame, thas the reason I put it the other way
Regards

Look at the photo of my NWT above...in particular look at how many teeth on the rear cog the chain is wrapped around. Now look at your Tikit with the Singlenator pushing down and look at how many teeth the chain wraps around - quite a few less.

It's not life or death...if you are happy and it's working just ride your bike. I'm just geeking out here....

BTW - I jealous of your NWT - love the Rohloff...

hmm, It does seem like gdlerner has less space to run his tensioner in push up mode.... I wonder why this is? optical illusion? or a difference in the Rohloff dropouts (OEM)? Perhaps it is just an older model NWT with some differences in geometry? does the singleatorcome in more than one size/lenght?

The stock rear cog on the Rohloff is a 16T....the rear cog on my Nexus is a 23T...even going to a 21T cog on my Nexus the Singlenator would not work in push up mode. I just ran into this problem and ended up going to a slightly bigger chain ring so I could use the 23T cog and keep the singlenator in the push up mode.

No, a 23t cog on a Rohloff would screw up the gear ratio. Although maybe this could be fixed by choosing an appropriate chainring? Don't know if it's possible to fit a 23t cog to a Rohloff though.
