Dahon Boardwalk S1 Frame Latch Braze-On Failed
I just got my Boardwalk S1 a little over a week ago, and have only ridden it twice. There was something rattling while I was riding yesterday, but I didn't pay much attention to it. When I got home, I noticed that the rattling part was one of the braze-ons the latch attaches to. The actual frame hinge looks quite robust, but the latch hinge attaches to two very thin metal tabs welded to the side of the tube.
(see pics: the bottom tab is turned outwards so you can see the raw steel edge)
I made sure the hinge was adequately tight when I assembled the bike (but not overly tight), and I never jumped any curbs or stood up while pedaling. Is this a common or known problem on Dahons?
I'm waiting to hear back from Perfomance, but I hope they refund me the full cost of shipping if I have to send it back (I'm in Canada).
The Boardwalk S1 was a lot of fun to ride the two times I took it out, and I chose it not so much because it was dirt cheap (although that helped), but mostly because of it's upright geometry and single speed. If this was just a factory defect, I'd have no problem getting another Boardwalk, but should I consider something else?
