at a LBS I saw one of these "fun-bike" cybex-sqrl gizmos. while it looks like a toy , it seems pretty solid. all videos on internet appear to be geared for kids doing tricks. anyone knows whether it could conceivably be used as a folding bike replacement for short , ~1-2 mile rides for example?

Skatebikes like that have been around since the 60's with slight variations.
The only "revolutionary" thing about this one looks to be the handle, compared to these old ones.

I guess you could commute on one theoretically, but it looks like it would be really uncomfortable. You'd have 100% of your weight on the saddle the whole time, no way to stand up over bumps, bad meeting with the handle thingy if you try to stop quickly, etc. Seems like mostly a children's novelty, as with the old ones.

I tried to ride one of these about 10 years ago at a German Isetta rally, I say 'tried', because I failed miserably to keep those pesky little wheels on the ground, I did not fail to put myself on the ground though! :o ;)
