I became a fan of folding bikes about 2 years ago,
My job involves a lot of traveling and I use to carry the bikes with me.
First 2 pairs I got were bought in the US; I never believed I can get the same models in China,
but I was wrong,
the prices in China r 30 to 40 percent lower than in the US, all you have to do is pay attention that you r getting the same type of bike with the same quality, they often come under different name.

This model is sold in China as low as $200, almost half then the prices in the US or the EU.
They are light and trendy,

looks like a dahon but it is a nice bike also and for that price (new) you can't beat it.

This bike uses cantilever hubs, secure on one end and free the other. Not sure if it is strong enough to resist flex under high loading and bumpy rides. But agree with you that bikes in China is very affordable. They are real stuff made for China domestic market and not meant to be exported. But I understand that there are stricter quality control for goods meant for export, especially branded bike like Giant and others. We cannot run away from goods made in China, just about everything is now made in China, even Iphones and Ipods.
