MOULTON FOLDER!!! never seen this!
i was looking for the Moulton reunion 2009 photos and saw this:eek:

Nice, its appears to be a mixture of older Moulton MIni(?), with a (SP Brompton)folding stem, a custom bespoke folding coupling (taken from a Brompton?).
I like the rear moulton suspension,and particular the seat post extension on the frame. That reduces the stress and stiffens the ride up , potentially get rid of this difficult folding bike problem. Should he have keep the front suspension, rather than used a suspended stem? |

While Steve is best known for his work with Bromptons, he has worked on Moultons and IIRC Birdys as well.
The bike looks neat and it is good to see that he chose to use Brompton hinges rather than something nasty like those fitted to d****s |
I desperately need/want/ just gotta have a Moulton.......(sigh)...one day.

I think the answer to that is they are 16”(or even 17"). The clue is in the tyres.... Schwalbe Kojaks don’t come in a 14” size. Kojaks come in 16, 17, & 20 inch sizes.

I doubt its a standard mini Mouton fork, anyway if SP got his hands on it. Its has braze ons for V's for a start. |

Love it. Seems the forks are lending a few Brompton pattern fixings too. Folding seatpost a la Tikit too. (well without the cable releases). Great update on classic.

To be fair, I had a 3 speed midi only a couple of years back, it had no front suspension, no auxillary clamp, and was fine ,with no frame problems, even after 30+ years.

I had a Mini. Didnt have that horrible clamp.
Why didnt Raleigh just weld on a bracing tube like a Dawes Kingpin has. I geuss that the clamp would be easy for the shops to put on. Hope they didnt put it on cracked frames though. |

I helped some user testing of the Raleigh Burner BMX(1990's) with stickers over the Raleigh name to conceal its idenitiy. All of the bike were handled back with several broken parts on them after only a weeks trail, by mild mannered racers,not stunt riders. Problems included alloy bars that were dangerously weak, and the frame Downtube was flattened then welded underneath the bottom bracket, instead of meeting it as a full tube. Despite the results of this testing, the same bikes went into production unchanged! I remember a nextdoor neigbour asking me "aren't the new Raliegh BMX range great!", he worked at Raleigh, and he did not seem to like my race quality imported BMX bike. Ignorance is bliss! Great memories, and the factories was in my home town of Nottingham, but not every thing from Raleigh was great! |

I have to say the build quality of my R20 is less than stellar...
That bracket is one for the history books along side the staggered rear wheels of Le Car (they forgot to figure in enough room for the muffler) |

The R20 frames seem to endured the test of time. What I find when restoring them is I have to file off all the bodgy weld spatts to get a nicer finish, but that just adds to the enjoyment of the finished project.
