Dahon Jetstream EX Special Edition 2010

I love the spec and look of this bike. Almost enough to contemplate selling off my customised Brompton (which cost me around £1900) and my Dahon Cadenza 08. This is the first time I've seen a relatively compact folding bike that can do most things and looks great. I use the Brompton for road use and the Cadenza 08 for occasional road use and trails. They are both great folding bikes.

But, is it worth £2100? Advice and insights welcome :-)

I believe they don't do it in the USA according to Thor when he wrote on the Dahon forum before this beauty came out?

Because you like to tinker with your bikes , why not get the P8 at a fraction of the cost and have fun with it.

not that easy .... the ex has a toally different fork .... and it has a different frame ... designed for disc brakes ... and thats just the beginning .....

do you think it's worth the price and the ultimate sacrifice of my modified Brompton Thor? (Link above to my bike)

I am not familiar with this model but +1 for full suspension.

I made the switch about 6 months ago and it made a big difference for me.

I was tempted, just a little, to go for the '08 XP when CH White had some in at £1299 (probably two years ago now). TBH, I don't see the point of discs on a road bike- but for mild off roading, yup, handy. £2099 though.....sheesh!

My sentiments exactly. I know it is a beautiful limited edition bike and that production/logistics costs have gone up but I feel it's a bit overpriced nonetheless.

That is why I would go for the P8. You can make it look pretty :-)

I think your Brommike is a keeper. The Jetstream, while very nice, does probably not have the long term appeal/staying power of the Brommie plus won't keep it's resale value.

As I've said before, the Jetstream series is my favorite of the Dahons... and this one is definitely the best of that bunch. I'm not sure that I would pay that much though over a custom Brommie... though I can see why one would be tempted. Beautiful bike. I wish I could give you a more definitive answer than that, but we're talking about two great bikes.

As jur notes, the Brommie will like keep its value longer, but the Jetstream is likely to be a bit more versatile. I guess it comes down to whether or not you require or truly want that versatility... and whether resale value is important to you.

Thanks guys! I think the general consensus is the EX is a gorgeous bike but probably priced a few hundred the wrong way. However if they sell all 250 allocated in the limited edition in this country, I guess it fulfils its purpose for Dahon. It has expensive and very high grade components but I'd have thought around £1700-1800 was more realistic!

I don't think I could let go of my Brompton really but this is the closest to temptation I've been. If I had the money I'd buy it even at £2100 as it's so unusual, never mind the spec. Dahon do make some absolutely gorgeous and capable bikes at the top end.

Besides I got my hands on a Cadenza 08 Special Ediiton with a matching brown saddle and handgrips. I'll post pics on another thread :-)

I would think that comparing Bromptons and Jetstreams is like comparing apples and coconuts.

One is optimized for folding and other is optimize for riding.

It depends on what you want to do with it.

Thats a tuff one to answer ..... Your Brommie is as nice as they come .... with very sensitive mods..... AND I stay away from this VERSUS thing ..... as Im just a little biased.

I would wait and look and check and keep my eyes open to get my hands on a used EX down the road. Those limited series usually go to yuppies who dont even know what they have, consequently after a year or so the girlfriend of the yuppy finds the bike somewhere and sells it for a song .... lol ... ( one can always dream )

keep the bikes you have for different reasons and look out for a used one down the road.
