Dahon Speed D7
Looking into getting a D7. Was wondering how current owners customize their own. Like adding bar ends, changing tires and such.. Either to make it look cooler or function.
the bars are a standard size 25.4mm MTB size, so you can easily add on MTB bar parts on it.
My fave bike. Upgrades are in the eye of the beholder.
Thanks for the info. How about changing the BB and Cranks. How are the stock components? I have a road bike, so I'm used to that type of performance, but i also understand i can't get that from a d7. I won't mind changing some of the components for better performance. The idea of different handle bars is good.
stock cranks and BB are heavy, but there's no point replacing them.
first thing I would change out are the grips and saddle. the tires are surprisingly good, but lack some traction. |
Get the bike first. You won't go any faster by shaving 200 grams off the chainwheel. If you've got upgrade-itis before you've bought it, why not just buy a more expensive bike?
with all those upgrades, you might as well start off with a Vitesse P18 or Mu P24
Go for a MU P8 or Speed P8 for something cooler looking and to customize. Thor has a Speed P8 for $500 http://www.thorusa.com/dahon/accessories/oneoff.htm I am in Lynden, have it sent to my house and pick it up here.
The only thing I did to mine was ditch the crappy stock tires for some Schwalbe Big Apples.
Well i guess i should just aim for a different folding bike. I've seen some on craigslist for like 300, so thats why i was asking. But i did buy a mup8 for my GF. I might just get a white one for myself. Thanks guys for the input lol.
I would not mind a white bike, especially if it looks like this :)

Oh wow, those wheels look so nice.. maybe I'd do that when i finally get a white mu p8... well something similar

To be honest, I would not mind buying a cheap D7 at Craigslist and then customize it the way I want. As a matter of fact that is what I will most likely end up doing sometime soon!
Things that I will probably add if I can find it for $250 or less: +Brooks saddle +Marathon supreme tires +Bullhorn handlebars +Barend shifter +TT brake lever As long as you are not trying to break any speed records I think that these bikes can be "pimped" rather nicely. And the cheaper you get them the more $$$ to customize them. The post 2006 (in the UK?) models have the telescopic handlebar post.
