08 Speed TR Vs Jetstream P8

Hey guys,
I just newly discovered Folding bikes and I'm trying to save up for a good folder. I been looking around and I'm interested at two models both under $700 which is what I'm aiming for. What do you guys recommend, a 08 Speed TR or a Jetstream p8? I'm also open for other options.

I'm pretty much riding for fun on bike trails, mostly pavement and concrete but certain sections has dirt. Also, there are a few small hills. I will be riding about 10 to 15 miles, a couple of times a week. And on certain occasions, ride around the beach.

I like the suspension aspect of the Jestream but it only has 8 speeds. I dont know if i'll need more than that but I guess it's always good to have. And I'm also wondering if maintenance will be difficult and expensive.
The TR... well it just looks solid.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Thx in advance.

The TR with all the gears and racks will be nice for all sorts of riding. The Jetstream is also nice for both but the TR would be nicer for longer trips. It is a tough decision. I would personally go with the TR because of the gears, lots of them.

I concur with Dynocoaster as I have an 08 TR and love it.

Speed TR is a nice little bike, and if you want suspension, you can always put Big Apple tires on it.

Actually, Speed TR already comes with big apple 20x2 :)
Around 45 PSI or so, very cushy. Only thing is penny, it probably is about 2-3 lbs heavier than Jetstream P8 with the racks, front hub dyno, light... and ergo grip, etc :)

According to the Dahon website there's 3 kg difference. I'd say that at 15kg the Speed TR would be very awkward to carry. . . I'd take the Jetstream myself.

Oh yeah, forgot that it already has those.

It is heavier, but, if it's not gonna be used for commuting, then I say I'd rather have the TR, for the sheer number of gears! Plus, you can always remove the racks and then put them back on when you actually need them.

The TR comes with premium pedals, grips, racks, fenders and lighting.

Great infos. Thx a bunch. The TR seems to be a popular choice.

The racks combined probably constitute 1 kg, so I'd still advise that a 14 kg bike is not one you'd want to be having to lift too much. Just something to bear in mind.

For me not a contest.

The Jetstream P8 is the most versatile. Good on the road and great on the trails. The range of gears across the 8 should be enough and you can always invest in changing the ratio in the future by replacing the number of cogs.

The TR is more of a touring bike or if you are commuting and carrying a lot of stuff. It would be OK on trail riding but rather you would feel the shocks more as it doesn't possess the Jetstream's extensive suspension.

I have an 06 Speed Tr, which came with Big Apple tires and the Crane Creek Thudbuster seatpost and it rides like a dream. I say get the TR, and if you still feel the need for some suspension, get a Thudbuster seatpost. you'll need have the Dualdrive, so many gear options, and won't have the complication of a frame suspension on a folder.
