I don't have a Brompification clamp, but I have another similar aftermarket design titanium clamps and titanium lever bolts...

With the aftermarket clamps I notice that they come loose a full turn during my 5 mile commute and gets to the point that the frame will wobble and make knocking sounds as it works itself fully loose.

I've also tried it with using the OE clamps and aftermarket titanium levers... same thing... the levers still work its way loose....

Now that I have the stock clamps and bolts back on, the frame stays nice and solid, the oe plastic levers stay snug and don't budge even during the 40 mph downhill portion of my commute.

Really love how the aftermarket clamps and levers look on my Raw Lacquer bike... but the OE stuff seems to be much more functional... am I using them wrong?

I bought the Brompfication clamps and they work fine IMO. Of course, I initially had them installed incorrectly so there was no difference in utility except looking sweet. I figured out my mistake a week later and now folding/unfolding is A LOT easier, since the clamps are consistently aligned all the time.

It's definitely a simple change that Brompton should apply in their next version.

I like my Bompfication clamps and they've never loosened on their own.

I had mine installed correctly so that they stay aligned all the time... and had them snug down however they still worked its way loose.

How tight do I need them to be?

The OE clamps just need to be pushed tight with the pressure of one finger and they stay snug the for my whole ride... and once snug down the OE clamps seem to want to resist un tightening.

The aftermarket clamps and levers would seem to easily loosen (vs the oe) with just a little finger pressure even though they are snugged down more.

The ones I have aren't the Brompification ones however another one that has the same design

I don't believe I'm snugging them down any harder than I did the OEM clamps, but I'm certain that they're not loosening over the course of rides of up to 40 miles at a time.

Perhaps your aftermarket clamps aren't exactly like Brompification's.

At this point in time, what are the alternative hinge clamps that are faster to loosen/tighten that Brompton's ?

Seen, one approach a magnet and a shorter side on the 'pacman. clamp, and a spring under it,

and a stop on the end of the bolt with the T handle to pre set how far you in screw it out so you can spin it without paying attention.

that combines to make it faster to use..

One more feature added to the rather "De facto Standard" hinge clamp set. :lol: Quite affordable too...

Another smart design is discard the spring by utilizing an O ring or C-clip. Cleaner and more precise...

Also a big fan of the spedial. Could use a more easily googlable name tho. that's for sure. I find the plastic the manufacturer uses matches the Brompton plastic pretty well and it's a lot less expensive than all the other alternatives I've seen. At some point, Brompton should really redesign their own hinge clamps to support the features of all these upgrades. It makes it so much easier for new Brompton owners especially.

Are they disallowed at the BWC ?, which is an old style 'LeMans start', running to your folded bike, then unfolding it, to start the race?

that's a good question. i'll have to ask our Brompton rep. We sell these at my shop and I can say that I would put these on my Brompton if I bought one. We sell other upgrades as well that are functionally similar but they're way more expensive. Fancy looking stuff with titanium clamps and all that, but I'm not in the camp of shelling out to take a few grams of weight off any bike except my carbon racer.

Kamoya things are very good (esp for Moulton and Birdy) but, as someone has said, they only supply within Japan. Bikegang, though, are available to the UK (from Taiwan) and are excellent.
