Dahon model PU-8 1yr old..? Yes, I said PU-8. Confused man.

Just a quick question- I've still been looking around at other bikes and have found what I think to believe an MU-8 for $300 with loads of different accessories (weatherproof bag, in seat air pump, cycle meter, fender, rack) in slightly used condition.

The problem is that the man I spoke with continues to say that is a PU-8 even after I have mentioned the Mu-8 model to him. He thinks that the new model might be the Mu-8 and referred to the bike once even as a mariner. Does this man just not know what he is talking about and has a great bike for sale that he doesn't know the value of?

After shipping and all of that, it would be around $350.. After searching, I haven't found a PU-8, just the MU-8. Looking at pictures it's curved like the MU-8 is, but this bike is blue. Is this man just crazy and doesn't know what he has? If it means anything, the bike is a bit older than a year and he paid ~$600 for it.

The main reason I'm looking for an answer is I recently ordered a Dahon Mariner 2007/08 D7 for $300 and would know if I should return it and go with what I'm thinking is the better Mu-8. I would have to ship back the Mariner for about 30 or 40 bucks and then pay for him to ship the bike to me. Only thing I'm shaky on is that I wouldn't know how to process a safe transaction if I'm paying for the shipping of the "Pu-8."

Advice/thoughts/opinions? Is it really worth all of this hassle? Is this much of a deal? If anyone has this model of the Mu-8 (if it is one..), how has it done for you?

That is an older model Dahon Mu P8. That one is at least 2007 or older, given that in 2008 the hinge on the frame was changed. I think it *is* a 2007, given the colour and spec, but i'm not 100% sure on it. That model also comes with a normal derailleur, a SRAM X7 I believe

As of 2008, they changed the Mu quite a bit. It got a new paint job, a new hinge type, and went from SRAM X7 to the Neos 2.0.

(new models come with a Neos 2.0 derailleur and mounting slot and can be fitted with a normal hanger too, while the pre-2008 models were normal derailleur hanger only)

It looks like the chain has been dropped in those photos. Ask if the drivetrain is still in good shape, i'd think, but from what it sounds like, the guy might not have any idea on that one either.

P.S. fenders, a kickstand, and the seatpost pump are standard equipment on the Mu P8, not extras.

It seems like a fine deal, but not an exceptional one to me. I like the Mu P8, and own one, but I don't know that i'd personally go through all the hassle to get an older one from a clueless fellow when I already had a bike on the way, personally.

Abney, I cannot thank you enough for your response. I was starting to get worried my topic would just get buried in the thread list. I really appreicate your input and I think I'm just gonna go with what I have on the way (the 2007/08 mariner) after reading this. This guy is making the entire process a bit complicated, too. He wants to me to drive 2 and a half hours away and send him gas money to meet at the place. He may be legit, but it's just a big hassle.

I think I'll keep what I get and then just keep watching and see what else may come along on craigslist or on other sites, but I'll rest on this one.

Thanks again.
