Foldable Two

We attended the 2010 Oregon Handmade Bicycle Show today her in rainy Portland.

There were 30 exhibitors - some new some we have seen at previous shows. Saw some interesting stuff, but no folders actually on display. There were, however, three folders tucked in and around the booths and obviously ridden there by participants. Saw a Strida propped-up in a doorway as well as two tikits next to another booth.

Had a chance to try a NuVinci gear-less drive system - it would take a bit of practice to keep from over or under shifting. Very smooth though. (I didn't actually ride the bike around. I was on a training stand.)

One of the displays garnering the most comments was 'English Cycles' - the after-hours business of Bike Friday Engineer, Rob English. He had his self-made TT bike on display (he's two-time State Champion on it.) Loved his elegant split-frame solution for his belt-drive bike - overlapping seat and chain stays at the right rear dropout. Took me a while to find it.

Also getting attention were the two tikits he and his wife had folded-up along side the booth.

Originally, I wrote Da Vinci gear-less drive system - it's actually NuVinci (amazing what you learn reading the show booklet). Apparently, it's a principal Da Vinci first outlined, though.

Saw Rob's work at last year's show and was really impressed... was pretty disappointed not to be able to make it this year but part of that stems from me making bikes here.

We plan on bringing some of our rides to next year's show and there will be a new folder in the line up.

I have a NuVinci drive on my cargo bike.
It takes about 30 seconds to get used to it.
