A Special Free Huge The CicLAvia Traffic Free Bike Ride In Los Angeles
What Is This All About?
Attention fellow Southern California cyclists. There is a unique bike gathering & huge ride being planned in the works by the City Of Los Angeles. It is called the Los Angeles’ first CicLAvia will be Sunday October 10th 2010 from 10am-3pm. It’s free, fun, family-friendly. It looks like the city will be closing many streets to offer a safe, traffic free commute for that day-normally you have to pay for a traffic controlled bike rides. I look foward to it!

Just completed Portland's last "Sunday Parkways' for 2010.
Gray and a bit of rain, but lots of folks out walking and biking through The Pearl and NW areas.
https://tiny.cc/u5drn
Did it on our Pocket 8 Bike Fridays, Saw 1 - Dahon, 1 - Older BF Tandem (being walked due to a flat) and another couple with 2 - Model "T" tikits.
This was the last of five such rides this year.

Was it the (Black) Dahon, which was parked next to a Blue canopy in Wallace Park (where the musicians were) around 1PM or so?
Wife spotted it and I turned and saw it as we were walking toward the bike corral.

I'm in WA, but I'll be visiting LA on that day. Anyone have tips on if there will be bicycle rentals near either end of the route?

Welcome to the first-ever CicLAvia in Los Angeles - www.ciclavia.org !
This Sunday, October 10, 2010 (that's 10-10-10, folks), at 10 AM, our city will be opening streets from Boyle Heights to Hollywood for everyone - people on foot, bike, skates, youth, elderly, and everyone between to enjoy our streets as public spaces, free from automobile traffic.
The LA County Bicycle Coalition (LACBC) will be kicking off CicLAvia with a leisurely 7-mile ride, starting at Hollenbeck Park in Boyle Heights to the Bicycle Kitchen in East Hollywood. The ride will last about one hour, and other CicLAvia events will take place throughout the day until 3 P.M.
Tour with us, help us spread the word about LACBC, and enjoy refreshments at the end!
LACBC helped initiate the movement to create CicLAvia and has served as a partner throughout planning for CicLAvia over the past two years.
Our friends with the *Eastside Bike Club* and the *San Gabriel Valley Bike Coalition* will lead also a ride, from the Alhambra / El Sereno / South Pasadena area to Hollenbeck Park. Meet at Walgreens, corner of Main St. and Fremont Ave. in Alhambra at 8:30 AM; the ride will leave at 9 AM. The ride will go through El Sereno and Lincoln Heights to Boyle Heights.
After the ribbon cutting festivities at Hollenbeck Park, the ride will meet with the *Eastside Riders*, *South Central Bike Club*, and the *Midday Ridazz* at 11 AM at the intersection of Figueroa and 7th streets. This ride will then proceed to Macarthur Park for a pitstop, travel to East Hollywood, then return to Hollenbeck Park.
The Eastside Bike Club will be pulling a *GHOST BIKE* as a reminder to all motorists to SHARE THE ROAD! The Ghost Bike w/Rider is a tribute to all cyclists that have been killed by motorists.
For updates on the ride and to rsvp contact erica@la-bike.org

Please post some pictures of the event!
We will still be in the NW this coming Sunday, so won't be able to participate.
Wife and I grew up not far from Fremont & Valley Blvd in Alhambra - just a few miles South of the SGV Bike Coalition's starting point.

I will post some photos of the event just as soon as I come back from it. My trusty camera will be able to take 10 or so photos.

They might be able to help you get a temporary bike-or know someone who does.

The wife and I had a great time on our folders at CicLAvia today. Saw quite a few folders out there, managed to meet EM42 at Little Tokyo. The ride on the Gold line in this morning was packed with bikes. Hope they continue to have it. I caught a glimpse of Folder Fanatic, going the other way, but didn't get a chance to say hi.

here's one photo of the Folder Group meeting at City Hall
about a dozen folder riders showed up but could not stay as they wanted to ride the streets
[there are many other folder riders I have seen and did not stop by as they were not aware of the folder group meeting]
will post the rest of the photos later
the CicLAvia is a success and I'm excited to ride the next one!
I don't remember everyone that I met but
hello to Henry and his wife on their Dahons[socalfolder group], Raul on his '64 Moulton F 4 speed, Mark from Carlsbad with his moulton, Folder Fanatic on her brown Twenty, and many others
