Adapting existing luggage to brompton.

Hi,

I have a brompton M3L, best investment I ever made! With it I have the folding basket, I wanted the C-bag but it was really over my pricepoint after just getting the bike. I do have several messengerstyle bags about that size that I'd like to make compatible to the block/frame. But I am in no way a seamstress and could use some help, preferable step-by-step or even photos if anyone knows how to make the bag a brompton bag.

Thanks

/Mel

It depends on how you want your bags adapted to your bike. You have the choice of:
  • Using a Brompton bare frame rack as the bag's support, then the whole unit (bag & rack together) is attached to a luggage block. (Which I assume you have already on your bike as you have the folding basket).
  • Hanging the bag directly on your handlebars (no Bare Frame needed)

Whatever you decide, you must settle on your method of attachment as sewing one is far more difficult than the other. But both can be successfully done on a domestic household sewing machine. I know as I already adapted several bags already sewn up at purchase to both my Brompton and my Raleigh Twenty.

I sent a nice basic idea on how to go about attaching the bag to your PM address. Check it out.
