Sybil Got Her Groove Back!!!

Yes, my R20 is almost* finished. It took under 3 months (give or take a vacation here and there).

Here she is in all her glory. She is still very British but with a little South Bronx thrown in the mix :).

Before:

After:
Attachment 179391Attachment 179392Attachment 179393

What's new:

Handlebars, stem, SA 3 sp trigger shifter, cables, housing, grips, Continental kool stop brake pads, bike chain, seatpost, saddle with built in red blinky, headlight, bell, bike mirror, kickstand tip, pedals, dark blue paint job and rear rack bag.

What stayed:

Wheels, SA 3 speed hub, brake levers, calipers, rear rack and fenders.

Total cost - Don't ask!!!:notamused:

I wanted to finish the R20 before the holidays were upon us. In a few days I'm going to be knee deep in relatives besides making cobblers and pies for Thanksgiving and beyond.

P.S. If you want to see a larger pic, I find that if you double click on the pic it will enlarge.

*Just some finishing touches left (new reflectors and a Raleigh Headbadge (thanks to Aaron). I also want to shine up the old fenders a bit. Right now I'm happy that I was able to strip the paint from the fenders).

Good job, love those handlebars.

Btw the 2 reflectors on the front wheel aren't symetrical, you'll have to start over :D

Nicely done....congrats!....:thumb::love:

Mmmmm... shiny....
She looks great, congrats!

Wow...Sybil looks great. I love the color. I noticed you put the shifter and the bell on next to the grips and then the brake levers. If you switch that around and put the levers next to the grips and then the shifter and the bell you might have a better braking position.

Looks great, nice job.

Thanks Thor, Russ, vik, lucille, Dave & Dyno.

I know this pales in comparison to what you guys/gals can do. However, this was my first redo and I definitely learned what not to do as well as what I should do.

DOH!!! I just noticed that I had two in the front and only one in the back. Never fear the new ones I'm installing will be symmetrical. :)

I've tried a number of different positions for the brake levers. I originally had the levers next to the grips but found them uncomfortable since the lever of a previous shifter kept pressing into the space between my thumb and 2nd finger.

However, I got rid of that shifter (wasn't compatible with the SA hub- mistake #1) and got an SA shifter, which seems to have a shorter lever. Hhhhmmmm worth repositioning since I did change the shifter.

Your bike looks so shiny and just sparkles in the sunlight. I think your keeping it so British (with a little of your own influence) will make this particular bike special in it's own way. Congratulation and enjoy the Holidays with it.

Thanks FF. Strangely enough I won't be able to ride my R20 during the long Thanksigiving holiday. I have out of town relatives I have to entertain. Right now Sybil is being covered by a tarp in the patio until they all leave, which hopefully will be Sunday.

what - sybil is in the patio covered by tarp. she's not smiling at you right now.....

vman. - Can't help it. It's for her own good but she's a little p.o.ed. She's all dressed up and has no where to go right now. But after the relatives leave, I'll have a bit more time to spend with Sybil before Christmas.

Today I got special metal polish so I can really shine up the fenders beside providing some rust protection.
