Rust? Rust! AAAH! D7

I got caught in a downpour today with my shiny like-new D7. As I was in the process of wiping everything down I looked with my flashlight in the main tube, and under where the water bottle mounts (w/plugs inserted) there is a nasty patch of rust. Also, after wiping around the bottom of the headset there was rust colored grease on the rag! I don't ride this bike in the rain, but it looks like the previous owner has (he claims to have only ridden about 15 miles, but maybe he left it out a time or two?). I plan on upgrading this bike and owning it for a very long time, so I'm quite unhappy to see this. Any advise on servicing the headset and removing/preventing the rust from spreading in the frame?

I would put water bottle bolts in the holes it will seal them better. Any bike will even get rusty hanging or sitting indoors so what you are seeing isn't unusual. The humidity in the air makes this happen. If it bothers you spray the inside of the frame with a rust stop or frame saver. There are several brands out there. You could also just spray the inside of the frame tubes with a spray lube. An example would be WD-40. Roger

liberally spray rust cote or any such thing available in every automobil department/store in every hole you find and you will be golden ( not rusty )

Thanks guys. I looked at a couple stores today. Didn't have any of the above mentioned. I guess I'll have to check home depot next.
