Average weekly distance?
New job with very unreliable transport connections** so my commute is now 13km cycling each way multimode or 28 km bike only. No bike is only an option in extreme circumstances. I'm using some wonderful android software to track my cycling - cardiotrainer - which gives me a rolling 7 day distance travelled. Currently that's staying around 160km (100miles) - though a bit lower right now as I destroyed another tyre and was off road for 2 days this week.
So, just curious***, what sort of distances are other people covering? joan **Canary Wharf, London. There are about 90,000 people working there, and only 2 types of rail. They go catastrophically wrong at least twice a week. My first day (without bike) a 10 minute connection took over an hour. The second time I tried public transport, an 8 minute trip took 50 minute, and required me to head in the wrong direction to avoid the Jubilee line. *** ok, maybe a little smug too. But if Jur responds, that will be cured :-) |
I have a very short commute but do longer rides on my days off. Probably averaging 100-150 miles per week atm :)

I admit to not being as zealous as I used to be. The biggest problem is Time - commuting well over an hour each way ie getting towards 3h each day if showers each side are included rather uses up one's spare time. So these days I will use multi-mode with train in the morning, total time 1h and no shower needed, and in the afternoon still do the 28km unless it's raining, in which case I train multi-mode as well. The 28km is the bike path way, if I want to be home a bit faster I use the direct roads instead which is about 26km. So my weekly average is far less, 30min in the mornings, 70min in the afternoon, if the weather is dry. I'd call about 180km a week as opposed to the 280-ish I used to do. Car is out. I have developed a total aversion to driving. |
20-30 miles a week, all recreational (12-16mph).

130-160 miles a week depending on the holiday/unusual schedule. Typical week would be 150 miles. It's all commute + side errand on commute. Typically carrying about 30lbs (2 pannier, clothes, drinks, notebook, etc...) extra weight averaging about 13 mph (moving 14 mph). Not that fast but it's a huge improvement from 11mph I was at when it was 4 months ago when I started going at this distance. Daily incline of 1400ft bunched up on 3 mile section does wonders for my workout on the way back home. Looking forward to the days that I will be doing 16mph moving average every day... (not so easy with bike+luggage weighting 60lbs+ with the hills I have... and I would think that would be practical limit for eventually in couple of years).

60km a week just from commuting. usually would do more when the wife wants to ride around the park for fun.

I don't commute by bike, so my rides are recreational, or functional (like shopping). I average 3,500 miles a year of hilly recreational riding, plus another 800 or so functional riding.

Just worked out my annual milage which is about 1500-2000 miles a year commuting i.e. 10 mile a day round trip, 50 miles a week. This is done on my Brompton M3L but will soon be switching to my Moulton TSR2, especially for the summer months :)
Recreationally I probably do another 1000 miles a year or so. Regards Jerry |
Weekly mileage use to be 28-35 miles (6 miles 3 times a week plus 10-15 miles during the weekend).
Now it's barely 25-30 miles a week even though I commute to work 5 times a week instead of 3. My job is literally 3 miles away - round trip - so my longest rides are now during the weekend. |
8.5 miles round trip daily, so 42.5 miles per week, in combination with 25 minute each way Amtrak train.
Including 315 ft climb daily at 5-15% grade. Downtube 8H. |
i commute 13 miles each way on my folder, so that's 125 miles per week + any distance rides on the weekend, but I ususally do those on my road bike
