Bike Friday/Brompton shoots self in foot ?

Hi all

I spotted a tikit on UK ebay, flagged as "bike friday/brompton rival". When I returned to the link, here the message is the listing was removed.

One can speculate this was because of mention of the Brompton, given past history.

Which would be a funny little paradox. If the Tikit is not a Brompton rival in truth, then there would be no need to remove the listing. I mean, why worry ?

If it has to be removed then the implication is that there is some threat to Brompton. That is, the Tikit is a rival. In which case, that the listing has to be removed is because it is true.

Me, I am own an S2L-X, and love it. I think the tikit is probably a great bike too. Someone should get a life out there though.

I wouldn’t call a Bike Friday Tikit a Brompton rival or any serious threat here in the UK for the simple reason they are much rarer than Bromptons.
In the 3 years that I have been commuting by train with a folder I have only ever seen one BF Tikit..... and that had me shouting from the open carriage door to the guy on the platform “WOW, a BIKE FRIDAY TIKIT, that’s the first one I’ve ever seen... COOL”.... I think he was impressed that I knew what his bike was

maybe they got hit for what amounts to search spam. I always hated to search for something only to have items that I don't want show up in my results because the seller put every brand they could think of in the title.

eBay has been policing listing titles for years - at least since a spate of 'X, not Y' listings (where X is what the seller is listing and Y is a popular search term) in the early 2000s made the search function border on useless. 'Bike Friday/Brompton Rival' is effectively a variation of 'Bike Friday, not Brompton' and probably was dinged for that reason.

Wouldn't the solution be a minor edit to the listing? Why would it be removed?

its ebays penalty for somebody using other names to get his listing show up for different searches... The seller looses quite a bit of money for a 1000dlr bike listing .... and hopefully doesnt do it again...

BUT when you have similar valued/ perceived items...like a Friday and Brommy than you do a couple things when you kill a listing and make the seller pay 20 30 dlr again for a new listing. You severly .... of the guy.... and lets face it it and thousands of people see brand x associated with brand y ... not bad advertising as there now be people looking for a Brommie if they dont see a good friday in the lsiting as well....

if there is some crap stuff and they use a brand name its a nobrainer...I have removed several chinese fly by nighters using Dahon and other brand names .... but in this case its a little different
lol

It was me who wrote the Bike Friday Tikit / Brompton rival on Ebay....It was taken off because it contravened Ebay selling rules..Simple as that..I bought the Tikit 2 years ago and raved about it on here..Saying how good it was..
However I tried a new Brompton S6L recently with reduced gearing and was very impressed..so ..I bought one..Hence the Tikit has to go..Tikits are brilliant to ride..but Bromptons are brilliant to fold..and the new BWR hub is brilliant..I would like to keep both but I already have 4 other bikes so the Tikit has to go..Keeping my Bike Friday New World Tourist...wonderful..wonderful bikes..
