Whoa, this is pretty much my dream folder right here! How drastic was the gear ratio change when you switched to the belt drive? Do you think a belt drive conversion can be done on the factory Mu Uno single speed hub without being geared down too low?

Those are 451s ( he got one of my spares ... but happy it went to a great home ).. rear cog is a 22t Alfine... good luck finding that one other than from Germany..

You'll be geared very low with current GCD USA inventory and a stock bike.. some customization would be needed depending on your GI choice.

I think 22t is the lowest tooth count he offers for the Alfine driver... I never inquired if he would custom cut a smaller cog... might be a couple of bucks though.. of course he also does custom sprockets, so there might be some higher tooth counts available for the front also..

That would make life a whole lot easier... the stock Uno is (from memory 53/16 or about 62 GI and a 3.3x1 gear ratio) ... Delta Cdrive system could get you close with their 80/25 and a 1200 belt, and a 3.2x1 gear ratio, but you would have to measure carefully and possibly do a little filing.... if it were me, I'd do what Roman and I did, and run a two speed.. I run a Sachs automatic duomatic, and Roman a Sachs kickback duomatic .. and we both run 451 wheels which helps with the gearing.. as you may have read, SRAM is going to release (in a few months) a two speed automatic (probably along the same lines as the Sachs).. that will be one more two speed option..

22t maybe, I think, the lowest cog allowed on the GCD. I hear the Gates Centertrack can go down to 16t. So, I really had in mind a larger sprocket.

Of course, this picture throws my idea right out...

lol yeah if it would be that easy ..... even I would have done it ...lol
of course this is a mu ex sport with 8 speed nexus hub..... the frames of the different mu bikes differ a little bit here and there.
but .... maybe something fits better next year ... never know

The price is another thing, you increase the price of a UNO around 50%

I use 60T front sprocket and 22T rear sprocket which works with the 451 wheels (24 holes front with Bike Friday hub and 28 holes rear, fitting to the 28 holes Duomatik) really good. It´s easy to accelerate from zero to around 23 km/h (~15mph) and in 2nd gear i already reached for short time ~30mph.

To use the GDC with the origional hub and 406 wheel you would need a smaller rear cog or more than 60T front sprocket.

I´ll be waiting for the new SRAM Automatik hub. Maybe its a little bit lighter :-))

Mu Uno's aren't too bad of a price to begin with (less than a Trek Soho S, if I recall), so I don't consider this too bad of a hit...

Have you installed just the front brake or can you also use the coaster brake?

i use the front brake and the coaster brake of the Duomatik. You could install an rear brake like the front brake - but you will have another cabel :-))))

Hi Roman,

Really love your bike! I have an Uno myself and would love to put some handlebars on like those! Do you know what the codes/names are for both sets of bars (the first larger set and then the more narrow bullhorn bar you ended up fitting?).

Also, what brake lever is that you've added to the bar? I like it all
