'New' Raleigh Twentys (aka Shopper)
A few years ago (2007 maybe?) Raleigh re-introduced the Twenty as a non-folding shopping bike with 406 wheels and an alloy frame. The sad thing was they only seemed to sell them for about a year and then they vanished from the inventory without a trace.
Stock:
One I remixed in Potatofrittershop:
Now I was trawling the 'bay idling looking to see if any second hand 'new' ones had come up (one did - here: https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/290550906264) but I also found these other bikes listed with a VERY familiar looking geometry calling themselves 'Viking Shoppers'.
Now knock me down with a feather if you don't think (like I do) that Viking haven't bought a job-lot of the same frames, and are selling them both on the Bay and on Amazon in rather nice looking white derailleur Six speed and and retro bronze Single speed models.
Six Speed:
Single Speed:
When you consider the cost of sorting out paint, rims, tyres, rust, Phil Wood Bottom Bracket and other 70s woes on a fixer-upper Twenty, the low cost (£159-£169) of these brand new bikes seems very enticing.
Anyway. Thought I'd pass it along - these frames look like the basis for a perfect project minivelo bike. (I think 451s would fit in there. Or just fine from straight-from the box.
(Search for 'Viking Shopper' on Amazon.co.uk, or 9o°gle it to find lots in local bike mailorder sites across the UK)
[EDIT]
The Amazon listing says it's steel. So maybe not identical. Or maybe the Raleigh was steel. I recall someone had a chance to lift on in a shop and recalled that it was 'HEAVY'
