First On The Block Announcement....Los Angeles' Ciclavia Returns
There is another Ciclavia scheduled for Sunday April 10th 2011. I reproduced the formal Announcement in it's entirety here from their own blog @ https://ciclavia.wordpress.com/2010/12/01/announcing-sunday-april-10th-and-more/#more-2272
I am planning to be there and will repost this Announcement later closer to the date.
December 1, 2010
MARK YOUR CALENDARS! The next CicLAvia will be Sunday April 10th 2011! The 4-10-2011 route will be pretty much the same as the 10-10-10 route – 7.5 miles from East Hollywood to Koreatown to MacArthur Park to Downtown to Little Tokyo to Boyle Heights.
We’re also looking to set the date for two more CicLAvias later in 2011.
These will both be on the main 7.5-mile route, possibly with additional new spurs into South L.A., Boyle Heights, and/or Chinatown, depending on how quickly we can work with these communities to get the new route spurs ready.
The second 2011 CicLAvia event will be July/August 2011. Sundays then are:
July 3rd, 10th, 17th, 24th or 31st or
August 7th, 14th, 21st, or 28th.
The third 2011 CicLAvia event will be September/October 2011. Sundays then are:
September 4th, 11th, 18th or 25th or
October 2nd, 9th, 16th or 23rd.
In our very preliminary discussions, we’re thinking maybe just maybe July 10th and October 9th – which could establish a second sunday regular rhythm… but before finalizing these late-2011 dates, we’re going to be working with our partners at the city of L.A., neighborhood councils, and you, our broader community – to understand if there are significant conflicts with other events and/or events that we might dovetail with. Please comment to let us know what July August, September or October dates would be best or would present problems or would work best for you! We hope to finalize all three dates by the end of this year – so let us know right away.
(Depending on funding and readiness… there’s some possibility of a fourth CicLAvia event in September/October – possibly in an area different than the central route – such as the Valley or the Westside or ??… but for now we’re just setting the dates for the three wonderful central ones. More on this early next year.)

Looks like the April ride will work out given our current schedule - Planning to be back in Portland area for the "Worst Day of the Year Ride" on 2/13, then should be back in L.A. area long enough to participate in the 4/10 Ciclavia.
Thanks for the heads-up.

if you live in California ,You don't want to miss it, it was absolutely surreal riding thru downtown LA. Without Noisy cars. Oddly, even with thousands of cyclists it was still quiet

Lucky! I have to ride a bus or train to get anywhere on the route. Does that mean that you will make it anyway?
I, for one, will attend for as long as I can.
Now, how about a refresher video on what exactly is the Ciclavia (an excellent documentary on the last one in October):

Recent weather reports indicate that it will be cool and sunny (40s during the early morning and upper 60s during the day) on the next Ciclavia. I just finished making a fleece pullover cycling jacket just for the event reflecting this development. This is far better than the 90+ temperature we endured during the last one in October.
Hope to see all of you there!

Unfortunately, will not make it. Heading back to Vancouver from WA coast today in time for bike show in Portland tomorrow, but will not be back in SoCA 'til end of next week. Hopefully will make one this Summer before we sell the Ventura place. Oh, the "Jet-set lifestyle" on a small budget and a folding bike.
Have fun!

I am going through my checklist for the Ciclavia. Yes, everything appears to be in order. I chose the bike that I will take with me. It will have a nice new bag to be presentable-I hope. I will be properly attired for public display too (!). I am going to bed very early tonight to rise bright and early to be there at opening. Please be there too!
