Experience with Citizen Bikes?
 

I ran across a Craiglist ad for a used Citizen Bikes- then found website that shows prices on new lower than anything else I've seen, which makes me wary. They seem to have gotten some decent press reviews (Bicycling, WSJ, Time, etc) but I'm still wary of anything that costs 1/2 or less comparable. I'm sure they're made in China but so is half the stuff I buy.

Anyone have a Citizen or have experience with them?

i used to have citizen tokyo. the negative things i can tell you about the bike - it's so heavy and low on gearings. the positive thing - it opened my eyes to the wonders of folding bikes. if you plan on getting a folding bike, check craigslist and get a dahon instead. price of citizen might be way lesser than dahons but there's a reason why.

Do a search in the forum - this topic has come up before. You'll see a variety of opinions. I still own my Citizen Tokyo, and it has served me well for three years. I did upgrade the gearing on mine, which on the original, as vmaniqui said, is too low, too slow. The steel Tokyo and Miami models are indeed heavy. The more expensive aluminum and alloy models are lighter. I'm not sorry I bought mine, but I am saving my money for a better bike - buy the best bike you can afford, and try before you buy if you can.
