Folding bike at Costco!
1 Attachment(s)
http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=208602Spotted this folding bike yesterday when I was at the COSTCO. This model looks like those old Hummer/Montague folding bikes of yesteryear. Price was $399.99 USD. Bike had 26” wheels and had an impressive looking air rear suspension. It is also equipped with disc brakes and front suspension. I noticed that the rear derailleur was “Altus”. Model of the bike was “Cam Rock”. The box said the company was “Kent Bicycles”, which are not known for providing quality bikes. COSTCO usually stands by their products so perhaps this is different.
Anyway, I got excited to see a folding bike at a well-known retailer like COSTCO. |
The trained bike mechanic, putting them together may be missing
from the food chain. so you may need to find one to straighten out the details skipped over on the way to the sales floor.. or are they going to hand you the carton, stacked on the pallet racks and point you to the tools department, to equip you .. to put it together yourself..? |

Actually, you can see the boxes to the right of the bike. Ready to sell. Just unfold and go. Probably add air to the tires. So easy a monkey can do it. |
New bikes all need hub adjustments, at least. they are always tight on the bearing adjustment.
Cheaper they are the more its required,, pedals , headsets , check the bearing adjustments , and the wheels for proper truing and tension, they come out of the wheel building machines and put on. and all nuts and bolts fitted in dry, expect them to rust and seize over time . Good Luck . |
A full-suspension folding bike with a mid-hinged frame? Sounds like a box full of joints to lube, tighten regularly, and fall apart!
|
That suspension looks to be copied from down-hill / free-ride mountain bikes.....but I wouldnt down-hill anything on any folding bike. For a folding FS MTB I'd prefer a "soft-tail"/cross-country style suspension....yes, it has much less travel but less bounce pedaling uphill and much, much lighter without a big steel coil back there.

I recently purchased a new bike for a family member from an LBS. Since they were having a "sale" they couldn't prep the bike until 2 days later. I noticed that the brakes were kind of spongy and the tires needed air. I called in 2 days to make sure I didn't have to schlep down there for nothing. "Nope, not ready. Call us tomorrow." I did. "Come on down. It's ready," they said. I show up and, sure enough, brakes are still spongy and the tires still need air. If you're not gonna do anything to the bike, at least let me take it home! Sheesh. |
Its is good to see a folder at a place like Costco, maybe folders will be more commonly seen
|
A folding BSO. it doesn't matter its too big for taking on public transport ,
in rush hour which is hated by the funders of the congress. but that tax money goes into the arms trade and endless wars to the tune of trillions of dollars .. welcome to Dystopia. you cannot shop your way out of it. |
Is it still a BSO after it's folded? ;)

That's what lead to me to try wrenching it myself. I now have a LBS that I can trust. But most times, I just do it myself. |
I would say NOT a Hummer/Montague. Who are still in business.
