Tyrell in the US, also BD-1?

Hoping to get some insight as to how to source a Tyrell Ive in the US. Apparently Japan EMS have changed their restrictions and now no longer ship bikes with tires installed. I have contacted them to confirm, but no answer so far. That leaves Fedex, which would cost as much as the bike.

We had a break-in and both our Birdys, one a custom BD-1, were stolen. Would prefer another BD-1 over a Birdy, but running into the same road blocks as the Tyrell. Absolutely no luck on ebay or craigs.

Thanks

I live in the states and strongly considered buying a Tyrell. There was a bike store in Singapore that was willing to ship to the US. I think it was this one: https://www.innovarisports.com/international-store

I know that birdy bikes were renamed as BD-1 in Japan because Suzuki motors have registered "birdy" name.

But in 2016, Pacific had a new agreement with Suzuki to use the name "birdy" in Japan, so I think BD-1 should not be available anymore except for old stock or pre-owned bikes.

BTW, Bfold (www.bfold.com) offers birdy bikes in the U.S

Thanks for the feedback folks. I've emailed innovariaports about shipping to the US. They have the Ive for $1600 at the moment. With adding a rack it's the same price as a 2015 Birdy disc from RAD.

bfold and RAD-Inovations both have Birdys at a good price, but they are older models. Have found no one in the US with current stock. The BD-1 bikes were usually higher spec'd than the US offerings and wonder if they will continue with that with Birdy Japan. The BD-1 I had ripped was a Colorplus custom job with many drive train upgrades.

Decisions, decisions...

Innovari Sports is the importer. The actual bike stores are BRU and MyBikeShopSG.

Thanks. I'll check them out. Innovari seems to have their site set up for retail sales, including shipping info that is limited to their area. They have promotions and even mention their fulfillment partner. Most unusual for a distributor. They have emailed me back that they will put me in touch with a dealer, so there's hope. I just noticed the prices on their site were in Singapore dollars, which makes for a very attractive purchase depending on shipping.

I have personally seen Tyrell IVEs at MyBikeShop, originally about three years ago, for SGD1,600. They've come down in price a bit since then. If you want Pacific Cycles, Reach or Birdy in the Lion City, EWalker is the retailer.

BFold can get/order you any model Birdy. Did you check with them?
Shipping from New York will probably be less than shipping from Singapore/Asia?

RAD now only has one Birdy in stock, the Touring Dual Drive, and at a very attractive price. My only hesitation is learning that SRAM has discontinued production of the Dual Drive and parts and repair may become problematic. Also still waiting to get a shipping quote. The bike I would consider shipping from Singapore is the Tyrell, and still waiting for a shipping and availability reply.

Sent off another shipping inquiry to bfold.

well, the only parts you'll need are the clickboxes and the needles. Stock up now. I used SRAM DualDrive for four years and two tours, and the original clickbox and needle never needed replacement.

Still nothing on shipping from RAD or bfold. What's interesting is that when I had inquired with RAD about shipping for the Birdy Disc they replied that it was no longer available, but included no shipping info about the Touring when they confirmed it's availability.

I did hear from mybikeshop in Singapore and they sent a total cost, including shipping, for a Tyrell Ive.

I don't know if they still carry Birdy, but I test rode a few at Urban Bike Fitters in Hayward, CA a couple of years ago.

Looking at BFold's site; seems like they have the latest Mark III models:

Thanks for the input folks.

I have ordered an Ive from mybikeshop in Singapore. Total, including shipping to the US, was US$1480 and DHL indicated import duties will be US$173. so the total is less than any Birdy I found in the US not including shipping. My guess is it would probably run about $150 +/- to get one from back East to California. In any case, Kian at mybikeshop has been extremely helpful in answering my questions and putting the order together while all I got was dead air from the two dealers in the US for Birdy.

Meanwhile the police recovered my Birdy Silver 9 Speed and I have done a frame up restoration to get it back to ridable condition. It will be interesting to compare it to the Ive. Also, just as I completed the order for the Ive I got another call from the police that they may have located the BD-1. We'll see what condition it's in if recovered.

Will give a full report on the Ive when it gets here.

Wow, really surprised the police found anything at all. I know in the UK thieves would use police stations to lock up bikes they stole outside while waiting for sale, they can appear quite useless.

Be interesting to hear about the Ive.

Would love to get your thoughts in the Tyrell. I’ve also been window shopping them but of course there is no place to try them here in the United States.
