My GoBike got pranged!
Just came back from the 'Big Chill' festival, near Ledbury, England.
While there, myself a a few other drivers went for a ride in search of real ale & nice pubs. I was on the Long-John, Chris on my GoBike, Sean on my Strida5 and Richard on his new Halfords MTB. It was hard work on the Malvern Hills. On the way back, I almost fell off on a nasty hairpin bend which was at the bottom of a hill, somehow the MTB crashed into the GoBike, snapping the steering stem off just above the weld and breaking my Brompton luggage block off the frame. I know it's a very slim shot, but does anyone know where I can get a replacement stem? Otherwise, I'll have to get in welded and strengthened. |
Sounds like you found real ale..

Some pics would be helpful.

Hi Chop -
Is this the Go that got nicked in Scotland(or somewhere)? Did you get it back or did you pick up another? I remember pics of another ale evening where you had a brief lie down with it. My guess is you're a CAMRA member, at least in spirit. I just picked up a Go, and in researching it seems they've gone the way of the Dodo. Their web site is still up, but they do not respond to emails. I can't find any dealers listed anywhere. If you find a parts or accessory source, please drop a line here. I'm looking for mud guards in particular. I think I can get Planet Bike rear fenders to work, but having a hard time figuring out a way to mount the front. Have you done any weight reducing mods? I didn't realize the things weigh 30lbs when I got it at a very attractive price. This has turned into a project to see if I can shave about 5lbs off and still make it a practical. |

Hi Chop -
Is this the Go that got nicked in Scotland(or somewhere)? No that was a Rohloff Birdy, got nicked in Dublin. Did you get it back or did you pick up another? Nope, not a sniff, the GoBike is another bike I remember pics of another ale evening where you had a brief lie down with it. My guess is you're a CAMRA member, at least in spirit. Yup! paid up CAMRA member (Campaign for Real Ale) and a member of the RATS (Real Ale Tasting Society) I just picked up a Go, and in researching it seems they've gone the way of the Dodo. HaHa! you are so funny! :p I'm looking for mud guards in particular. Now you're going from sublime to ridiculous, is this why they call you Clown? I think I can get Planet Bike rear fenders to work, but having a hard time figuring out a way to mount the front. Have you done any weight reducing mods? Unless you count snapping the handlebar stem & luggage block off, Nope, just added about 10 pounds! I didn't realize the things weigh 30lbs when I got it at a very attractive price. This has turned into a project to see if I can shave about 5lbs off and still make it a practical. |

Good luck with it, keep us posted
Speaking of which...I've been looking at my Birdy and Go, and wondering if the Birdy handlepost would work on the GO. I like the engineering better on the Birdy's, especially the folding mech. A Brit buddy got me started in homebrewing in the 80's, eventually became a certified judge. Spent two glorious weeks in Blighty sampling nothing but cask conditioned, mostly in the Midlands. So many pubs, so little time. Cheers PS - Clownbike is a self chosen moniker to avoid confusing me with 'Serious Cyclists' As if the bike wasn't enough... PPS - You ever work with Diamond Head? |
