I'm looking for a folder because it's going to fit in with the kind of lightweight touring I want to do. I keep coming back to the newer Tern Link P24h because it's in my budget and looks to have the right amount of gears. What do you think about this bike for touring a week or two? I've also been considering the Bike Friday Pocket Companion and dahons. Unfortunately, I'm not in position to test ride any of these. So any insights would be greatly appreciated.

It's been a long time since I've been on a bike longer than a day. So I want this bike to work with me as I get back on the road.

Foldable Two

Most of us have never seen a Tern in person - let alone ridden one. Given that, If you are tall or short, Bike Friday is the better bike, since even the stock one like your considering, comes in three frame sizes. (I'm 6'3" with long arms and legs and I have owned two Dahons - looks very similar to new Terns and are also related - and two Fridays.)

The 24 gear set-up is plenty for touring.

The other questions are: If you are out there for 1-2 weeks and something breaks, which bike is easier to get replacements for? Maybe Thor would FedEx parts Tern parts like Bike Friday does, or is Tern mostly standard parts?

I plan on touring more. When I'm not touring it will be used occasionally, maybe 15 times a year, for a 25 mile commute to the big city. I use my Trek mountain bike for that ride now but a folder would be better than dragging the Trek onto the commuter train. Then there will be some rides like dropping the car off at the shop then biking home, 20 minute ride. You get the idea.

• What does "light touring" mean to you? 100km per day for 2 weeks?
• What is more important to you comfort or speed?
• Why do you think you need 24 speed? what gears do you have on your Trek?Do you use them all?
• What kind of terrain? hills or flat? rough ground or smooth road?
• How important is folding size to you?
• How important is folding speed?
• How often are you going to carry your bike when folded? and how far?

If your hands and butt are happy with spending days in the saddle ,
and it carries your stuff, any bike is a touring bike..

touring is the trip not the bike.

I have done mulit day tours on a Dahon MU p8. If the price, the weight, gearing and fit
are Ok ant folder will do.

the bike won't get used much, it doesn't do a compact fast fold.

Challenge why you need a folder and not just better plan your train choices?

A Brompton can do touring, it will fold small enough to fit in the trunk of any vehicle and the luggage is held on the frame not the wheel so its more stable.
