Frozen bottom bracket cup.
Hi all -
Have my first fubar with the Gobike and hope there's a deep geek with a solution. Rummaging through the spares, I came across an FSA carbon crankset with bottom bracket in good condition. Thinking this would be a nice first upgrade for the Gobike, I proceeded to remove the crank and BB from the Go. Or so I thought... The left side BB cup is frozen solid. It moved slightly when applying what seemed like excessive force, but now wont budge. I had to use a bolt through the Park tool to keep it set in the cup splines. After giving up with that, I removed the right side cup. It spun off fine after using the tool to break it free, though again it seemed to take more force than necessary. There was no sign of threadlocker on the R side. The splines on the L side cup are now well buggered. Not sure if totally from my efforts, or the gorilla who put this thing together. I have no idea why the cup is being so difficult. I've had the carbon set on and off several bikes and have never had this much trouble. I just hope the cup is not cross threaded. Thanks for any help. |
PS - To add insult to injury, the right side won't go back in. So the thing is a boat anchor until I can get the dang cup out.

Does it turn right to loosen it?

Finally got the thing off, some idjit had used red Locktite. Had to use a Dremel to cut slots in he cup and then knock the bits out. Luckily was able to avoid thread damage and they cleaned up nice.

Good job on getting the cup out. :thumb: I know how I would have turned the air blue had it happened to me.
