Got a new bike, a Dahon Mu P8 and I am loving it.

This bike is so much nicer than the Vitesse it replaced. I love the looks of it, it is kinda like a larger Curve.

The ride is so much nicer, the handling seems more precise. It is a different frame style so I am sure that accounts for some. The Marathon Supreme tires must account for the rest.

It seems to accelerate better too. The lower weight helps this.

For now it is stock except for the rack and the fenders, both Dahon items.


Thor once said that the P stands for premium, well it really does. Better brakes, wheels, BB cartridge, roller bearing in the hubs, has QRs on the wheels.

Even little things like the grips and seat are good enough to keep.

I am happy.

A friend of mine recently acquired a second-hand 2007 Mu P8. Well-used but with a bit of TLC and a new chain it's now looking and riding much like new. A solid all-round bike that ought to last a very long time.

I am really enjoying this bike. I still need to clip the handlebars as they are too wide in their stock form, but I am just letting the newness wear off before I take a hacksaw to my new bike.

On my goals list for this year is to ride a century on this bike. I will have to work up to it and wait for warmer weather, but I think it is doable.

I haven had a chance to ride my new Mu until today. It was raining and 45F (7C). I should have taken the velomobile, but I really wanted to ride the Mu. It was a great ride. This is really a fun bike. I love the way it climbs. Brakes haven't quite broken in yet, but they are already getting better.

When I got home I realized how cold I was, so for curiosity I took this Thermographic image of my feet. The darker the blue the colder something is. According to this the coldest parts are at 59F (15C) degrees, normal body temperature is 98.6F (37).
