powergrips on Brompton pedals, or clipless
 

I would like to put powergrips on my sl2-x pedals, or, I guess put some clipless SPDs on, but can't see how to do this easily or cheaply - anyone any pertinent experience ?

I was looking at that a while back when I was considering that option.

I noted that the Brompton pedals are made by Wellgo; so I got a pair of Wellgo dual sided clipless pedals that match the originals in looks, and just installed the right hand one. The left side is still the folding pedal; I have found that having just one clipless actually works much better than expected.

This is similar although mine has a natural frame, not black.

Their left one is their Own , need a 24mm socket to remove..
There are pictures on the Web of fitting Power grips on them.

Personally I have no motivation.

of course the thread in the arms is 9/16 standard,.
so fitting one of the pop off pedals let you switch EZ.

I have powergrips on another bike (my TSR2) and I have to say I love them.

However I have never felt the urge or need to fit them to my Brompton. I think its because I commute across town on it and don't really ever get to a point where I want to really put in the power to speed up that much.

hi all thanks for this. I do love my brompton, and take your points. At the moment, though, with 2 gears only, it restricts my cycling to the relatively flat locale. I don't want to add more gears, for cost and weight reasons, and just thought grips or clipless would give me a bit more oomph over hills and longer distances. Seen the grips on the web now, thanks. Not keen on drilling the existing pedals though. Guess will have to live with it.

You can upgrade the crankset to a compact double, square taper.
and, while riding, kick the chain onto the inside cog with your heel.
Pull a rag out of your pocket to keep your hands cleaner,
to put the chain back on the big Chain Ring.

that won't be too costly.. no FD or adapter required..

FWIW, here's what I did. I can't ride without clipless pedals because it feels weird, my feet slide around and I go way slower. My clipless pedal of choice is the Speedplay Frog, so I put a pair on my Brompton. The nice thing about the Frogs on the Brompton is that they are relatively small, and there are no sharp bits, so it's not really a big deal that the left pedal sticks out when folded. And if need be, it's easy enough to spin the pedal off with a 15 mm wrench and thread it into the inside of the crank to make the folded package smaller or fit the Brompton into a bag. If you find a similarly small, non-sharp and easily removed clipless that's to your liking, try that.

Been thinking about this too. These folks (http://pathlesspedaled.com/2011/03/touring-bromptons/ - scroll to bottom) put MKS Lambda grip kings on their Bromptons - 1 normal, 1 quick release.

And the place that did it for them (http://clevercycles.com/blog/product...ur-brompton-2/ - scroll midway down) offers Lambdas and other pedals as upgrades to the Bromptons they sell.

And these (http://www.evanscycles.com/products/...7#BVRRWidgetID) seem to get good marks as a compromise between full clips and nothing.
