I've gotten my fiancee interested in biking with me (not riding in traffic or anything--just casual weekend jaunts over on the bike trail next to the Bay), and I'm looking at bikes for her.

I received my Mini Velo last week. Bike Fender, Front was not in the box. I couldn't adjust rear derailleur as maybe it was bent in shipping.I took to local bike shop and the next day they had it going through all the gears no problem. Don't think this bike will be seeing any rain days so probably will remove front bike fender. I am posting photos of my first ride with the bike. Fast and fun. I compare it to my Dahon folding bike and it rides day and night. Very fun bike. I added a water bottle cage, bike seat bag, and handle bar bell so far. I bought a rear rack and plan to attach it soon and add photo.

As an update, I took a cue from this blog post: http://lovelybike.blogspot.com/2010/...-get-bike.html and put the search of a new bike totally in my fiancee's hands. We went around to 4 local bike shops, and in the end, she got a new fire engine red Schwinn Voyageur 21 for $300 and couldn't be happier. I'm glad I didn't just hand off my ride to her, as I think it would've been a lost opportunity for her to get into the hobby on her own terms.

This is an old thread but I notice they're selling these bikes again at BD-- still $300.....
They seem reasonably good quality. I had a similar, non-"mini" product from BD that I was quite satisfied with, given its price. I rode an old Dahon folder once for about 20 minutes.... the thing was an absolutely AWFUL POS !!!!!! |
Thanks for the reminder about BD.
It's been 5 years since I created this thread! A lot has changed. I moved into a house from an apartment, which means I now have a garage to store bikes now. I had a Larry vs. Harry Bullitt, but I never took to the ride feel and sold it about a year later. I still have my Dahon Boardwalk S1, but it never gets ridden. My commute got longer and I was unable to bike to work for about 3 years. Thankfully, I recently changed jobs and can bike to work again, which I do. The biggest change is that I have a child now, and so I wanted a bike to carry her on. She loves riding in the back on a Yepp! Now she has her own balance bike to practice on. Unfortunately, my wife never did take to biking. She rode her Schwinn cruiser a total of two times, and after a long time in storage, we sold it many years ago. Can't win them all I guess. |
