I have a question for those of you who have a Brompton M or H style and the Ergon GP1 handlebars (regular or biocork).

Do you have to cut some rubber off the inside edge of the grips to install them? Or do they just fit without any cutting?

And specifically for the biocork, if cutting of the grip is necessary, is it hard to do on the biocork? I assume the regular rubber ones are easy to cut with an exacto knife, but I'm not sure about the biocork ones.

My searches have indicated that cutting of the Ergon grips is sometimes necessary, but nobody has mentioned cutting of the biocork.

Any insight is appreciated. Thanks.

I cut off an Ergon grip once, and remember that it was hardish plastic underneath the rubber. So you will need a hacksaw.

There's also 'grip shift' Ergon sets which have a short righty and a long lefty..

Short Right , long left is R'off IGH version

I put a double grip shift version on, both short, slid right on , no problems.
I got the black/grey and GC3, rather than the cork/black version [lower cost]
GC2 would not need loosening to turn the bar end to fold,
but with 1 bolt its not too much of a chore

Clearly I need to do more research on the variety of grip lengths...I am thinking I want to find a double grip shift version. I'm pretty sure I don't want bar ends. I have them on my regular bike, but rarely used them, even when I was using that bike to commute.

I found an ebay bike store selling pairs of new GP1 Biokork grip shifts for $28! So I snatched up a set. Two left at that price after I ordered.

I'll report back once I get them and install them.

I got the Ergon GP1 grip shift version in size small. Installed them but have no end plugs since they dont't fit. I'm currently hacking a solution, but found out my sugru expired and had cured in the package, so I need to order some more.

Speaking of which, I just upgraded from my Ergon GP1 Large gripshift grips (not cork). I decided I needed some bar ends, so went with GR2s, which, by the way, are impossible to get in gripshift except directly from Ergon.

Anyway, the GP1s were used fairly lightly since in the time that I've bought them (about 8 months ago) my wife had identical twins and this has put a massive kink in our biking schedule. Anyone looking for these?

The gripshift sets are short on both sides. You're confusing these with the "Rohloff/Nexus" sets, which are short on the right and long on the left.
