Packed Dahon Speed TR for the first time
 

I picked up the bike a few months back for the reasons people like folders: fits the car, stores in the house, airline issues, etc.

I had assembled the bike upon its arrival and ridden it a number of times, but nothing more. We are going to Cuba in a few days, and though it is a family non-cycling trip, I felt I wanted to be able to get out for some early-morning fitness rides. I am fairly competent in assembling repairing my bikes, but was wondering how this might go in terms of the time involved.

The verdict? Within about 20 minutes the pedals, wheels and seatpost were off and the bike was into its suitcase.

Why post this? If in doubt, pop the bike into the case and bring it. If you are thinking about getting a folder (or at least a Dahon Speed TR) but are intimidated by the 'work' in packing the bike - don't worry. It is SIMPLE!

I agree and don't like to travel without my bike, whether the location is familiar or new. I even got luck this winter and got to bike Minnesota in late December -- the snow stepped aside at just the right moment, even though all tyhe local rental shops were clsoed for the season... :)

Thank you for posting, I am encouraged and will now tackle packing my speed TR. Could you provide pictures? Suitcase?

http://www.gaerlan.com/dahon/pack.htm is the website that guided me. I followed it to the letter and it went exactly as shown. My suitcase is a soft-sided Delsey and it measures 62". Make sure the deflated wheels can fit into whichever bag you choose. The width is a critical measurement because of this.
