Brompton Saddle Clip

What type of clamp does the stock brompton saddle come with? I was thinking of replacing the saddle when I get it and I wanted to know ahead of time.

So the newer bromptons come stock with the penta clip? I can just take the old seat off and replace it no problem?

Also how wide is the stock saddle? I think i need a wider one.

Yea, standard,( US priced, if bought separately, they're $30..[UK L20])
thru any B dealer..
Wall Bike, NO,LA, cherrypicked them to offer with their Brooks saddle lineup. (though they don't sell the bikes.)

new standard saddle Brompton design is a 'unisex'..
optional saddle the popular B17 Brooks.

Thanks for the answers guys. Although Bob your answer kinda confuses me

While this sounds like your telling me in the United States we have to buy it separately for 30 bucks. Unless you were just trying to say that for 30 bucks I could buy it separate :P

I was looking for the Dimensions of the stock seat like 11" x 7" for example. I don't have the bike yet and the one I test drove hurt my ass so I was curious. I measured my sitbones recently and i wanted to put the numbers together.

I just want to make sure of everything so I can order the seat so it arrives with or before the bike so I can use it right away. Thanks for the help :D

Too much pre worrying , perhaps? Cool you heels ,
post about it again after it arrives.

if you order and pay the up-charge, they will ship it with a Brooks B 17,
on top of the Pentaclip.

Must be something wrong with your ass, nothing wrong with the B saddle! :p

Just wait and try the saddle for some time. As long as we are not talking about a really low quality saddle, and not one of them super hard carbon buttslicers I am sure you`ll adjust to the saddle enough to ride the bike for quite some time. Then compare the dimentions on the B saddle with what you think you need, do some reading about saddles in the different forums and then decide.

Bromptons stock saddle is installed with a penta clip. The penta clip allows to install virtually any standard saddle with two rails at the bottom.

My stock B saddle (got the bike a year ago) is 6" wide, 11" long. I replaced it with a 8" wide Brooks b67 Special.

What saddle do you have in mind?

Barrakulyan 04-30-12 06:02 AM

I'm not sure exactly. I'm looking on amazon right now. I was thinking about some 8" wide seat with gel and that's about as far as i got. I've felt a Selle Royal seat but I didn't sit on it. I was also looking at Cloud9 seats on amazon so right now I'm not sure. Either the stock seat is fine and I need to break my ass in or the seat is a inch or two too small. My sit bones are 130mm and the brompton is the H type so Im as upright as you can get. Pretty sure I need a wider seat than 6".

kamtsa 04-30-12 09:50 AM

Gel did not work for me.

I have a 8" saddle, it's at the handlebar height and works great for me.

Thanks that link helped alot. I'll wait till i get the bike and play around with adjustments and put mileage on my butt :D

I replaced the standard Brompton saddle with a Selle Royal saddle. I had no problems installing it - took about 5 minutes to get the angles right. And I absolutely LOVE the Selle Royal. But saddles are personal preference. One man's (or woman's) perfect saddle is another man's (or woman's) torture chair.
