24" Folding Bike Question

So my gf likes the schwinn folding bike so much that I'd be wasting time and money modding it haha. So maybe I can get myself some bigger but compact and I'd be willing to spend a little more. Do decent 24" folding bikes exist? I know right away that my feet are not designed for little pedals. I'm 5'10" at 240lbs (I'm on a diet!) and losing weight quick so I'll be fine with whatever. I can google 24" folding bikes all day long but I bet you all have have more information. Thanks!

What is your budget ? Tern has 3 24" folding bikes. Dahon has 2.

There are a few out there, as mentioned, but remember that 24 inch tires and rims aren`t as plentiful as 20 inch. Of the two "common" 24 inch sizes, 507 tires start at 1.5 inches (about 40mm) wide and go wider from there. 520 tires start at super skinny but only available up to 1-3/8 width, and the only ones you`re likely to find in stock at your LBS are 507 BMX tires- maybe not even those. When I was looking into 24 inch rims for a recumbent project, I found they were a bit on the scarce side too, and I would have had to pretty much take what I could get as far as width and drilling, which pretty much decided me against them.

24 might still be the ticket for you, but know about the tire and rim issue before you buy one and make sure you`re okay with it.

Why not consider a 26" Montague if you're going 24" anyways. They come in 18" and 20" frames too. It's just an extra 2" seat tube.

What is wrong with the 20" folding bikes? A lot more options out there. FWIW my wife rides a 24" wheeled Huffy Cruiser, a 20" wheeled Raleigh Twenty and a 16" wheeled Dahon, as well as 26" wheeled Raleigh Colts. Personally if you are going with the folder I would go the 20" wheel route unless there is some compelling reason to go smaller or larger.

at $300 that would kill off all the options for the major brands if you are looking at 24" options. terns and dahons for their 24" options hit like $1000+ for their iOS and eclipse models. best would be to look for the unbranded stuff then. even then I don't know of any that makes 24" wheel sizes.

24" Folding Bike Question

This would make my 5th bike so I thought I could save some money. Something as small as folding bikes I'd definitely like quality. I'm worried I'll pay for an expensive folder and right off have to mod pedals/handlebars to stay comfy. I asked about 24" not knowing it wasn't standard and now I see even Walmart carries 20" tires. I think buying a name brand used is my next option but id have to search outside my little town.

walmart does carry 20" tires but those are usually for kids bikes and they probably have a max psi of 40. I can tell you it will not ride well at all and probably sluggish feeling.

The Tern Link C7 is on sale for $382 at REI. You might check that out if there's an REI in your area. I almost bought that but got the D8 instead which I love.

24" Folding Bike Question

I thought about this Dahon on eBay but there seems to an awful lot of rust for typical wear.
