Citizen Tokyo - 2009-2012 RIP

A week ago, I got a call from the bike shop where my Tokyo was in for repair. Had it been a dog, and the call from the vet, the message would have been, "I'm afraid you'll have to put your dog 'to sleep'." My rear wheel was completely shot. It is a pretty unusual 16" (305) wheel - most 16" wheels are for kid's bikes and BMX's - not with a freewheel gearset. I can't find one pre-built - best chance is to buy a rim and have one built. (by the way - if it's the spokes and rim that are shot, can you reuse the hub?)

Anyway, looks like it would be over $100 - not worth it for this bike that cost just over $200, including the upgraded gearset. Besides, I've been saving for a new bike anyway - the Tokyo was fun, but I'm ready for better.

Unfortunately, the better bike that I could afford turned out to be a regular hybrid (Giant Escape 2), not a folder. I've left the fold, but I can't leave this fine forum - I'm saving up again - I think I'd like a Brompton.

Bromptons are nice indeed... :)

You probably wouldn't regret buying a Brommie. I regret not buying one sooner than I did. Would have saved a lot of d'oh!

I hope my Gotham 1 keeps going strong. I've owned it for about a year now with 931 miles on it at the moment. Still running flawlessly. Not even a flat tire!
I would probably buy a Uno next time unless Citizen makes a single speed coaster brake version.

Try contacting the manufacturer. They might send you a new wheel or buy it for a discount.
' worth a shot.

Speaking of Citizen Bikes. I put my Miami out to pasture last week. After the second replacement handlebar post, 2 rear racks, replacement pedals, and a replacement seat collar. All shipped for free from Citizen( great customer service ) The main frame latch finally broke. I had my Miami for over 3 yrs. So, I think I got my money out of it. I put about 3000 recreational/commuting miles on it. I am surprized it lasted that long.
