Question About a Peugeot
 

I'm very new to small tire bikes and folders, and something about his Peugeot was speaking to me. Maybe the color (I LOVE orange).

Can anyone tell me more? Value? Were these well regarded? Tubing type? $250 seems high'ish, but it's not my area.

I did a little research and this one looks like an up market version.

How would this compare in quality and value to one of the older Moultons?

you compare that with a Moulton ..... I got that bridge for you ... a little north of Philly ...but its a real well known landmark ....

seriously .. way overpriced... they are fun little restorable toys.... nothing compared to todays folders.... They made Millions in the 70 all over ..Italy, Jugoslawia ( now Slowenia/Kroatia) were maybe the largest producers.... Peugeots were MAYBE made in France, but most likely also imported from the Eastern Europe countries at the time. No problem ... but 250 is kinda high either way ...

Moulton ... not so much

Moulton is basically in a class by itself.

Peugeot Folders...if you get a French made one are middle of the pack. Not too bad, but not top of the line. Unless there is something to really set it apart from the other bikes of the era it is a $150 bike tops IMHO.

I have Atala, Rixe, Raleigh,and Dahon folders/compact bikes. With the exception of the Raleigh Twenties none are worth more than $150 and in the case of the Rixe or Atala probably more like $100.

After looking at the picture in your CL link...maybe $175. It is unusual. Condition is okay.

Thanks so much for the advice gang; greatly appreciated. Finding 22 inch tires is likely to be an issue...and french parts are never easy.

I made an offer of $125...if I get it. great...if not, back to the drawing board.

PS - I also did a search on eBay...one I'd consider similar has been stagnant at $150 and has no bids at $100. But the seller is local pick up. Another sold for $220, but that includes the bags and extras. I also would always offer less on CL than eBay...so what you folks said seems to be right on point!

That I would not buy for anything over $50.

I offered $125...apparently it belongs to an hoarder type who is convinced all of his precious antique bikes are priceless. It might have been too high, but is it worth $125 to me? Yes - it's orange, and it would be useful to have a true beater and bike that I can toss onto a peak hour train.

The more I've researched, everyone here is exactly on point with price, quality and value; it's nothing special...but it would be fun to try out. Great forum and greeat help...thanks for assisting an idiot newb :)

I want to thank everyone for their help...the seller did find a buyer @ over $200, but it wasn't me. Thanks to advice here (and else where) I am getting a Raleigh Twenty that my friends at Via found for me...I should have photos in around a week. At some point I'd like to change out the rims for alloy, use drops, and long reach dual pivots.
