Hi Noteon

Great pics. The one in the snow makes me feel very guilty as my Swift has not been out for a spin for several weeks because of the weather. We had snow, but nothing like you have had. Well done!

noteon 01-11-09 04:34 PM

Thanks--but as much as I enjoy compliments, I really just love snow riding. It's hard to keep me out of it, though I wish I had a pair of Marathon Winters. By the time I can afford them this year, the snow will be over, but maybe next winter.

It's Swift photo-fest...

that's pure gatuitous nudity - a nude model captured in a number of poses against a variety of backgrounds.

With a gratifying ride afterwards. :D

Make studded tyres or chains. Works great.

noteon 01-11-09 07:08 PM

Nice job! I don't have time for projects like that, but I admire anybody who can do it and have it actually work.

Next year.

Wow, those are some nasty snowy streets you're riding through, Noteon. You're a better man than I am, Gunga Din! What is that commodious sack on the back? Is it quite heavy? I can't make out what you have up front - a rolled up something and a water bottle?

JS, your Swift is set up somewhat similar to my own, but yes, it's nude.

One of these, one of these, and two of these, plus a water bottle and a this.

werewolf 01-11-09 10:21 PM

Thanks. Nice setup. Expensive. though. Where were the middle and bottom photos taken?

noteon 01-11-09 10:37 PM

Both on the Hudson River Greenway. The middle one was in the 30s, I think. The bottom one was higher, maybe somewhere in the 90s.

jakub.ner 01-12-09 06:39 AM

Great setup noteon.

joseff 01-12-09 07:38 AM

@james_swift: That's really cool. You just gave me my daily dose of awesome. Btw, I thought you had a black (non-xootr) swift?

Hi Noteon,
wow--those handlebar "mitts" are just what I need--my ride in this morning was 8 degrees F, and I just can't seem to keep my hands warm. Takes me an hour before I can start using a keyboard!!

Does it interfere with a handlebar mounted headlight?

Bill

werewolf 01-12-09 09:15 AM

That light sure does look bright in your picture. It better be bright at over $400!

Many years ago when I was in the Century Road Club I used to live in Inwood, near Dyckman (200th) Street. They used to have 25 mile races in Central Park, so i used to have to ride downtown for the race, at a ridiculous hour of the morning. I went down Broadway.

I was in a hurry and linked to the page for the headlight/taillight combo package. It was actually $269 (I think) for just the headlight.

I take Broadway when I'm running late for something, but the greenway is my main artery for getting around the island.

Billy, no, it doesn't interfere with anything. Here's another photo:

It certainly wouldn't be fun riding down B'Way c. 2009.

Here is another Swift Down Under. The chap wrote me an email after googling Swift and found mine.

What a cool bike--and it has silver fenders!

They do exist...

In the spirit of bumping this thread. This was taken at the farmer's market today, with a temperature of 75°F. Ah, California living. :)

werewolf 01-18-09 11:21 AM

Where do you get a clamp to attach the water bottle to the seat tube, as in Sqynt's picture?

itsmoot 01-18-09 12:08 PM

And I'd like to know what bottle cage the fellow Jur linked to is using, it's just what I've been looking for:

Some bottle cage links.

That's a Cateye cage. They work very nice with cable ties since they have holes for them. These are usually cheap and they don't rubbish the bottles like alloy cages do.

sqynt 01-18-09 10:40 PM

The bottle cage on my seat tube is attached with the Minoura pivoting mount. If you're not set on the location of the cage, I would recommend one of the seat or handlebar attachments over this one though. It was a bit tricky to mount, and it no longer allows you to use the seat post to keep the bike from unfolding.

IMHO, the most elegant place to mount a water bottle cage on the swift is horizontally above the main beam like the Bike Friday. I decided not to pursuit that route though since I more often carry a coffee cup than a water bottle (yes, that's coffee in the last picture).

An unforeseen benefit of using a cage in that location, is that the cage becomes a "hangar" for the seat and post combination when turned upside. This allows me to put the U-Lock though the frame and the cage to the object which I'm locking it to. It's a very small measure of security, but it's about as effective as a cable through the Brooks' rails. Either one is just as easily defeated, but it keeps the honest people honest.

i emailed swift folders about purchasing a steel frame, and recieved a response that they only do the aluminum ones now, and actualy by them from xootr!
i would like to know if it is still possble to buy the steel frame someplace, maybe somebody on this forum has one for sale?
