what is the max weight for those overhead bins ??? I have been in a plane where most of them opened up during lets say a dumm landing attempt trying to avoid a tornado..... besides all that luggage a Stewardess came flying by ( broke both arms in the process) I would hate to see bicycles flying inches over my head ....
just sayin thor A great landing is where the aircraft can be re-used. |
I find some staff seem to react a bit like this on trains.
If there are lots of bags in the luggage space, or near it, badly stacked luggage often they fall over and go into the aisle. If its a bag, suitcase, buggy etc people just move them or stand them up right again. This happens alot on busy trains. Sometimes my Mezzo falls over just like any suitcase does. Then members of staff sometimes ask who the bike belong to and could they move it from the aisle, rather than standing it up like any other piece of luggage that had fallen over. My favorite is this incident In the Uk we get announcements that " for security reasons we must keep our luggage with us at all times". In Derby station I was arranging some bags with my bike folded next to me ( Dawooe shuttle at time).I moved about 5 foot away from the bike to look at the train times. Then there was a security announcement "could the owner of the silver bike please report to the security desk. I walked over to the security desk with out my bike and the guard that could see me all this time asked me to stay with bike !!!! I was rather iradated and explained I would be if it was not for the un-necessary announcement !! |
Flew United Airlines from Portland, OR to La Guardia with Bromptons (one M6 and one S6) last week with no problems. Carried the bikes onto the plane with only some bubble wrap over top tube. Removed saddle and pedals. Stored them in overhead compartment. However upon return, LGA TSA stopped us. They told us to get permission from the airline. The supervisor came over and eyed the folded bikes pretty hard. We called them "Mobility assistance devices". Good thing, because he said " I dont have a problem with you carrying mobility assistance devices on the plane, bit I DO have a problem if they are bikes. It just depends on who you get!
