Toasterburn,
I own both a 2007 Boardwalk S1 (which my daughter rides) and last year's Crane. I started out on the Boardwalk, but steep hills were such a problem that I knew I wanted gears. Then I came close to buying a Dahon Mariner (which would have needed a tuneup) off CL. While considering the Mariner I came across a $100 off sale on demo Cranes, so here I am. Ask yourself if there are many hills on your ride and if you are in good shape to take on those hills. Good luck with your decision. Bill |
this thread is giving me the warm fuzzies...

Ok, assuming I could increase my budget $40, would it be worth it to get the Origami Cricket over the Crane?
I've never had a bike with disk brakes (or that type of suspension for that matter) but I've always been told that it's preferable. |

Pinigis, could you answer a few quick questions for me? If I ever wanted to swap out parts on one of your bikes (for instance, the suspension on your Cricket model) would standard parts work? Or would I only be able to use parts you produce for that specific bike? What material are the latches that hold the folding hinges together made of? Do your bikes come already tuned? Or would I need to get a bike shop to go over it before riding? Thanks. |
toasterburner, can you provide a link to the c-list boardwalk you were considering?

Sure: http://bham.craigslist.org/spo/3395666684.html |
they are older bikes, but seller claims excellent condition. i would definitely suggest seeing those in person and doing a test ride.

There are some steel compents within (pins, retaining rings, ect), but the levers and housings are aluminum. We tune each bike before it is shipped but there is a little assembly required (pedals, front wheel, and front fender) that should take about 10 minutes to complete. If you are not adept at maintenance and making adjustments yourself, it is a good idea to find a local bike shop that you trust to help with maintenance whether you have one of our bikes or another. |

Nearly all of our parts are standard sizes and can be replaced easily. The front suspension is made by Zoom, the rear is a standard size replacable by any of a dozen or more options. We do keep some spares, but since they are off-the-shelf sizes it is just as easy to pick them up online or at your local bike shop.
