Chicago Folding Bike owners, let's group together!

Hi, I'm new to this forum and I just purchased myself a Dahon Mu P8. I'm wondering if there are any folding bike lover in chicago?

Let's post a picture of our folding bikes and the mod we made!

Cheers!

I have a couple folding bikes and really love them. So great to be able to take on public transport or throw in the trunk of a car. Also have a work-in-progress Raleigh Twenty.

No Chicago folders fans here?

Let's show our folders here. Below are mine

Still thinking if I should give the Mu to the wife or the Uno to the wife. I love the cool color and simplicity of the Uno, but feel like I'd like the Mu more because of the upgradability :-)

Nice pics. Thanks for sharing. Hope you guys were not affected by the snowstorm that's been reported on the news here.
Take care all.

Why don't you guys get together after the snow and organise a coffee and a ride out?

Good idea, but that's probably have to wait until late March or April.
Too cold here, even without the snow.

Thanks. No, the storm hasn't showed up yet.

Yup, a get together in spring would be fun! let's see how many chicago folders we can get together.

Count me in on a get together some day. I live in the far north 'burbs, but I commute via bike and Metra train to my office downtown every day.

Here's a pic of my Birdy taken this morning in front of the Dubuffet sculpture at the Thompson Center.

(I'm also on www.TheChainLink.org forums which is a Chicago cycling forum. I actually snapped this pic for a picture tag game thread on TheChainLink.) :)

BY THE WAY... the snow is coming down now! So tonight's commute might be an adventure. :P

Anyone interested in actually making this happen?
Spring is just around the corner.

Count me in! If we can't get our schedules together, there's always the monthly option of Chicago Critical Mass. These rides are the last Friday of every month and they start at Daley Plaza.

I would be really cool to see another Birdy in person!

Sure!

Maybe in March and/or during the Bike the Drive event too?

Sounds good to me. However, for Bike the Drive, I might consider riding one of my vintage chopper bikes or cruisers. :)

Just got my Dahon Speed D7 a few days ago. Waiting for >0 F weather to be able to take it for a ride. Looking forward to spring.

Speed D7... nice ride! What color is it? (So I know what to look out for in my bike travels around the city.)

Nice R20 you have!
What's the other one?

crank_addict 01-29-14 12:17 PM

^^ Thanks - the Twenty was a $10 bargain at a Goodwill. Original that had a 'beautiful' grime protecting it. Did a complete take down for service, replaced the tires and pads. That's all it needed. Dig that cushy tushy saddle and the calamity of accessories - LOL.

The other is a mystery to me. Was driving past a pawn shop and some bikes were lined up as a sidewalk sale, etc.. No maker i.d. or serial. Super clean and looked to have rarely been used. Found out why shortly after. While sorting it out I discovered rear of frame was out of alignment. It didn't show any paint break or clue of crushing. Might have left the factory that way, never aligned, considered a defect but was sold??? I used the Park frame tool and it took just a few minutes to correct it.

Has lower-end Shimano components. I pulled the junk plastic folding pedals and in my parts pile found some Suntour XC pro w/ nylon 'super-strap' ratchets. Kind of different and like it. German national paint scheme / graphics and silver metal fenders but think its just another Taiwan made. Was told by another might be VW promo / boutique bike but the logo or badge removed. Fits 6 ft. plus rider and conventional position like a full size atb.

DVC45 01-29-14 07:16 PM

Both are nice, but a $10 R20?! That's a smoking deal!

My Bike Friday Pocket Rocket on a ride near sunny Santa Cruz in January, when Chicago was worse than awful. I bought it for just such occasions.

Great ideas! My wife would likely join in for those kinds of get-togethers; however, she won't be on a folding bike, she would be riding her beach cruiser.
