Do you guys keep your bicycle box after you unwrap your new bike? The reason I'm asking is that what if I want to switch to another folder, and if I want to sell the bike on ebay.

How would you guys pack the bike if you have to ship it out?

I have a Bike Friday that came with packing material for going into a Carlton suitcase. When I shipped it I just put in the suitcase and slapped a FedEx sticker on the side. If I ever sell it I'd probably also sell the suitcase with it.

I kept mine only because it is good for storing other junk in.

I'd just pack it the same way it came.
If it go to you that way it should be safe to send out the same way.

In 2006, I tried to ship a Bike Friday back to its parents (it was a trade for another BF) via UPS in just the Carlton suitcase, no box. I got to the counter, and they wanted to upcharge me for a "non-standard container."

I went home, got the original BF box, stuck the suitcase inside and readdressed everything onto the box to save the upcharge. No idea if Oops is still doing this, but it was certainly an eye-opener for me. I don't ship via Oops anymore, so if FedEx doesn't have this policy, yet another reason to use them for my cartage needs.

I don't know how much different a folding bike box is over a regular bike box,
but most bike shops would gladly give you as much bike boxes as you want,
free of course since you're doing them a favor by taking their trash/recycle

Oh, so local bike shop does give you those boxes if they still have it for free? I'm debating if I should throw away my mu p8 box. Wife is giving me the pressure to tidy up the garage, haha.

Yes, free. Just ask a few weeks before you actually need it. This way in case they got rid of them already,
all you have to do is ask again in a few days/weeks. Or just go to another shop.

i) Put the crap in the garage in the Dahon box. Think laterally.

ii) Or put the wife in the box, and take it to the dumpster. Think positively.

I'm another wife in a war with cardboard box hoarding, but I'll back off when it's pointed out that box XYZ is needed for the warranty. Try that.

The delivery did such a good job of trashing the Origami box, putting it in the recycling bin was almost redundant.

I don't know if the Mu comes with it but past Dahons have all been packed with a white plastic tube which fits under the seat tube to support the bike in transit. At least keep that.

And what would it look like if your wifes did not tell you to get rid of boxes and stuff? Like my shed maybe?

When I bought my folder, I was planning to use the original shipping box as a suitcase, then was really disappointed to find that it was way over 72L.I. It went to the cardboard recycling collection point on my next trip into town. Funny, all the guys hoarding stuff and trying to keep their better halves at bay- in my house, it`s my wife who can`t bear to get rid of things.
