Going through brake pads so quick :(
 

Hi Guys

I live in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire (lots of hills), and the Brompton brake pads I bought a couple of months back are nearly gone (again) !

I am a student, and I can not afford to keep replacing them, however I do not mind paying extra for good quality ones that will last a year for example !

I would greatly appreciate some recommendations on good quality, brompton compatible brake pads?

I live in the south of Spain. Which Kool Stops would you recommend for my Brompton in this rather arid climate?

I have read many times that the Kool Stop Salmon pads improve stopping power, but from what I've read, I think the jury is still out on whether they last longer than the stock pads. I have read that the Salmons are made of softer compound which would lead me to believe they wear quicker.

The Koolstop black compound is meant for dryer applications. They work (even in the wet) great and last longer for me. They don't leave that black residue on the rims' brake surface that many OEM pads do either!

i find them to be excellent and im pretty sure they have already lasted longer than the original stock brompton pads and, they have a lot of life left in them.

You have aNewer Brompton with the double pivot Brakes ? I think they use the Shimano style Road insert..

I prefer Clarks Gold pads to any others I've tried though I've read some very negative reviews of other lines of Clarks brake pads. They've been working well on my bikes (including Brompton) for the last couple of years and I've not seen excessive rim wear as others have reported. In my experience they're better than Kool Stop and much cheaper.

I wonder what the advantage of the dual compounds is.

Probably lasts longer. My Salmons have stood up to 2000km of commuting with very little wear. 2 months of that has been through salty slush that caused the chain and cluster to rust. They stand up to a pounding and keep on stopping.

Over three years and 4500 mile total of 10 mile daily use of my Brompton in all weathers I have just changed to my third set of standard Brompton brake pad inserts. At this cost I don't consider it work considering alternatives.

I guess as I live in Cambridge, its pretty flat so I don't do a lot of hard braking.

I use a combination of BMX koolstop sammon for v brakes on the front
And due to easier to get set up swisstops inserts on the rear on my bikes.
Just had alook on ebay and blimey all these inserts manufators are so expensive.

Someone post a cheap source if you find one please>
