Replacing a broken Brompton crank arm?
The pedal just snapped off the end of the drive-side arm on 58th Street today. Quite exciting.
Figured I'd see how much trouble they are to replace before paying a shop. I have a standard crank puller for tapered bottom brackets. Will that do the trick? Anything else to contemplate?
Thanks in advance,
Steve

Your crankpuller should be what you need. Peopel have different opinions but I suggest you put some grease on the end of the square of the axel before replacing the crankarm and some on the screw (or is it nut?- cant remember) before tightening it.
Make sure it is tight enough but without stripping threads (best is a torque wrench if you can borrow one).
Take some time to twist the BB axel to get an idea of the condition of the BB (best done with both crankarms off).

These are simple to change. I am always swapping Brompton main chain ring cranks between my Bromptons and even use them on other bikes.
Can't wait for the new style Brompton one to come out (I have been told Mar 2013) with a removable main chain ring.

Its a normal JIS BB these days 118 I think.. there's a Sugino clone of older DA cranks out now
[my BiFri fitted one]
might be able to find a decent 130 chainring, , and then fitted on the inside perch
on the crankspider will be a closer chainline..
I fitted a Schlumpf crankset, they make a Brompton specific Mountain drive model..
So I can Climb Mountains now.. 54 t in low acts like a 21t.
Swiss currency, CHF, is holding too much value so the price went way up..
I read they were moving the production to Germany to be selling in Euros instead.
