More Upright Riding postition From My D7?

I'm wondering if it's possible to get a more upright riding position out of my D7. I have issues with my wrists, and while my D7 is one my most favorite bikes I've owned, the current riding position makes it very unpleasant to ride. I know that Thor offers a "comfort handlepost," but looking at the diagram, it appears that my post is already at this position. I have also considered northfork type bars. Unfortunately if I don't find a solution, it looks like I'll have to let me beloved D7 go, and put the cash towards a more upright bike. So any thoughts?

A couple ideas. Thor chimes in regularly here so he may have more.

On the same webpage you reference above, the Aber Hallo stem to give more rotation. Don't forget you can do backwards as well as up.

Perhaps combine that with the Nitto Trekking bars in 25.4 to give multiple hand positions and give your wrists a break? Top two on this site (black or silver): http://sheldonbrown.com/harris/handlebars/index.html

I don't know what this will do to the fold, though. I think this is something where you'd try the Aber Hallo stem first, and if that wasn't enough, follow with the trekking bars.

I would try the Satori Vienna touring handlebars on thors site, not the Aber Hallo in your case. Ibought both and like the Sartori handlebars better for the problem you describe. You want your hands closer to your body when riding (for a mor upright position). Tha Aber Hallo can do that wit approx four centimeters, the Satoris much more.

Which D7? I assume it's a Dahon. But there are several models (Boardwalk, Speed, Vitesse, Briza, etc.) with D7 level components. Also, where are you located>

Cuould you give us some pix? Reading your post again I am thinking this could be "just" a wrist problem. A lot of peopel riding bikes with flat bars have tthe same problem. Could be more about the angel on your wrists than distance from seat to bar. Do you use "Ergon type grips"- or do you know what it is? You can buy them with short barends or without. It is possible you can buy it locally to try out.
Thor sell some Biologic ones that are great but there is a lot of different ones.

So looks like Thor is the only place to find these bars?

Thanks bargainguy. I'm actually not too worried about how it folds. It is usually stored in the garage unfolded, and mostly fold it when to showing it off to people.

I can't get to it right now, unfortunately. I just had surgery a couple weeks back and I'm not suppose to lift anything over 10lbs. I do have problems with my wrists, just sitting here long enough typing or clicking the mouse can be quit unconformable.

....and sorry for the multiple posts, this new format is taking some getting use to, and I'm in too big of a hurry to try and figure it out right now.:crash:

Which Portland - Alabama, Arkansas, Connecticut, Indianna, Kentucky, Maine, Michigan, Missouri, New York, North Dakota, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Australia or some other one? (I assume that it is Oregon or Maine, but we need to remember that this is an international forum. :))

Since you have said that your are "not worried about how it folds", I recommend you try a different handlebar with a bit more sweep (or rise) first. Keep in mind that you may need to get longer brake and gear cables. The Avenir Circa bar should be available from your local Raleigh dealer for less than $20. See: http://www.avenirusa.com/parts-and-a...andlebars.html This handlebar with some locking ergonomic grips (such as the Arcx griips from ThorUSA) has been the solution for several of our customers who wanted a more upright riding position on other types of bicycles.
