A new build, Dahon Cadenza
I've bought an old Dahon Cadenza frame on evilBay.
It seems pretty similar to the current Jack D7.
At the moment, the plan is for a high-speed urban assault weapon build.
Single 42 chainring up front, 11-34 8-speed cassette.
Continental SportContact tyres and a lightweight MTB wheelset.
Cutdown flatbar with ergo grips.
Maybe a lightweight rack too.
Thoughts, folding bike experts?

Well, the frame is here and in a nice silver-blue anodized finish:

The fork is ordered, I was recommended the Kinesis Maxlight 450, so thatīs what itīs getting:

This should give me a slightly higher position without a stupid amount of spacers.
The drivetrain is going to be 1x9, an Alvio 45 tooth single chainring with an 11-32 cassette. It might be a tad overgeared but hey ho, I can swap out the cassette later, this is whatīs on hand.
Iīm going with V-brakes, Tektro 520s and drop bars. I plan to bore out a flatbar shifter with a drum sander like this guy did:
https://tinyurl.com/d96n7kd

And hopefully the result will be similar to this:

Whilst it would be nice to go the 700c route I have the V-brakes, levers and MTB wheelset on hand so will stay 26", probably with Conti SportContact 30mm tyres.
One last picture, this chap in the UK did a fairly sensational 700c road bike conversion to a Jack frame:

I think that may be a little beyond the scope of what Barchettaman is trying to accomplish. If money were no object then sure, why not a front disc but that adds a lot of money to the equation in terms of a new brake system, fork and front wheel.

Dvc45, whilst a disc sytem up front would be lovely I have the parts on hand for V-brakes and drops, so that's what it's going to get.
The frame appears to have never been built up.
I've been happy with the performance of V-, caliper and canti brakes on my other bikes over the years.
It's always fun to keep the budget low!
TBH I'm not really familiar with disc brakes so I'm going to stick with what I know.
Plus using rim brakes means I can swap in my Campagnolo Shamal 650c wheelset for fast road use (probably).

Couple of build questions:
- does one run cable housing all the way from shifter to rear derailleur, and brake lever to rear brake?
- I have a BIG drop from the fork crown to the top of the tyre. Does anyone make an extra long mounting bracket for the front fender? Iīm looking to mount SKS Bluemels or Thermoplastics.
Thanks
Simon

Edit: prolly doesn't need to be said, but just in case, you do know that shifter and brake cables use different housing, right?

Thanks for the info, dynaryder.
Always good to check that someone is aware of the difference between shift & brake housings, too. I am.
The fork is on its way, then itīs off to the LBS where in exchange for wine & organic apple juice my tame LBS mech will chase & face the BB threads, and ream the head tube, as the frame is NOS.
After that we can get on with putting this thing together. The first few checks with the tape seem to show that replicating my road bike fit shouldnīt be too hard, hopefully the thing wonīt handle like a complete dog, with drop bars.
By the way that Nexus offer at chainreaction is fairly sensational value for money!!

Brief update:
The seatpost is temporary until the Thomson Elite 7° layback post arrives.

The 450mm īeinbauhöheīfront fork rotates the geometry round the rear axle, resulting in a slack ST angle, and the Elite post should mitigate this.

With a drum sander on the Dremel I widened the internal diameter of the SLX shifter from 22.2mm to 23.8mm:

Still to do:
finalize geometry, and cut front fork.
Fit RD, chain, brakes & cable everything.
Fit BB folding stand.

Finished, the thing, first ride yesterday.
The bike handles a little strangely & doesnīt feel particularly great climbing out of the saddle but other than that itīs OK.
I need to swap the 45 front single for a 50/34 and a different cassette, at the moment itīs very undergeared.

There is a front mech already on there as a chain catcher so I will rig this with a bar end shifter, I think.

Tektro V-brake levers and a Kinesis fork:

SLX 10-speed drivetrain:

Fits nicely in the back of my Vectra. Removing bars & seatpost obviously makes for a much smaller fold.
