We spent some time in Washington DC, attended a Capitals game. Next day I went for a chilly morning ride.

Getting around the DC monuments and sites by folder is the way to go. BTW, there are 2-3 hour bicycle tours that are recommended.

My other Eclipse (not as upgraded but not 100% stock either) in Hawaii - Makena and the coastal cliffs near Lahaina. Beautiful riding as long as you remember not to ride through the wetlands north of Kihei at dusk when it's EVERY SINGLE FLYING INSECT'S BIRTHDAY PARTY.

Schwalbe Marathon Plus tires and a Klickfix Rixen and Kaul front bag on a G2 Truss. Topeak Wedge with fixer on the back. Two road cyclists insisted one of those packs was a battery and that this bike was electric.


I know, the bike is using advanced alien Holosurface Active Camo and can barely be distinguished. It's one of the small upgrades I made.

This is the lighthouse past Maalea on the way to Lahaina. It should be a windmill since it's in a permanent hurricane which somehow knows to switch direction when you're coming home.

I volunteered at a bike event here in Dallas a few days ago and someone showed up with this. Old German Victoria folding kids bike from the 70s. It was in an overall good shape for a bike around 50 years old. Yes lots of scratches but no rust. And the bottle dynamo powered lights even still worked.

Struggle is real - been happening for a while now.. I got this Hemingway (now known as the K One) way back in the age of darkness that was 2020; my brother in law got his DB-equipped Launch around the same time. And they've been speccing the crappiest BB5 specials that even Aliexpress won't list anymore; i.e. you want brakes that actually work, you gotta upgrade on your own dime.

Tell me about that monocoque handlepost! Does it get in the way of folding the bike? I have one on order from Aliexpress that's 215mm high, along with a Litepro handlebar with a 120mm rise, for a total of 335mm, which puts me on the Hemingway about where I would be on the Mu (ironically, the sportier Mu has a taller head tube - and a higher stack - than the more mountainy Hemingway, so not only is it more comfortable to ride, but handles better, too. I have to pull the handlepost upper out by about an inch to be where I want to be on the Hemingway for the same comfort and handling.) If it works out on the Hemingway, I'll be ordering a second one for the Mu along with a 90mm rise handlebar!

I was mainly going to say you need an adjustable handlbar post. the "mono" one is perhaps stronger but not as versatile.
Yes, that handlebar will also work however.

I put the adjustable on my originally monocoque hb post bikes for a few reasons. One is the post goes inside the fold. 2 more comfortable, 3... well I have a few adjusables if you are intersted.

My thoughts for now.

Thanks. I'm going the exact opposite route: I want to replace the factory adjustable handleposts on both bikes with monocoques. Those uppers are a PITA to keep centered straight ahead; they are poorly retained in the lowers, and it always takes multiple attempts undoing and redoing the clamp to get the handlebars dead straight.

I have a few of the "monocoque" posts (non-adjustable). Lets discuss. They are indeed quite strong.
I have changed out 2 for adjustable thus the availability. Dahon Visc D18 originally.

Maybe we can work something out. Maybe you have found something already. I am in Colorado USA..

Fun swapping things out on bikes for sure. I do it all the time and it normally improves things.

Note also, that that HB post seems quite swept back on the Hemingway. They are normally built to different degree angulation.
More forward is a bit more comfortable at least for me.

It folds perfectly. The post is nice and stiff, so no flex at all. This was originally a Speed Uno (now my custom Speed 3i - which, if produced by Dahon and sold in the USA, I'd have purchased in a heartbeat), so the one piece handlepost came stock. It DID inspire me to swap the adjustable handlepost on my Mariner i7 to a one piece as well. I also installed riser bars, and it folds to the outside now (which I personally prefer). Measurement wise, I didn't face any issues, as the headtube height is identical to my other bikes. This thing is pretty much perfect for me (Lightpro upgrade).
