ok, caveman. suit yourself, but it looks like the difference in folded dims (90 x 35 x 73 compared to 92 x 35 x 84) is negligible and comes mostly from the handlebar jutting out on the tern...

and that's something that could be easily remedied by incorporating a folding handlebar stem. tern makes a shorty stem. a folding handlebar like the humbert-humbert or even a shanzhai1000 dahon stem would also work
.

I'd luv to get a link, as a Google search brings up nothing.

As for negligible, the height difference means no storage issues stashing it under my work table/desk. Space is limited there,...

I found one,...I'm not limited the "Humpert" folding handlebars.
ergotec - Foldaway handlebar FHS2 25.4

there are quite a few around. we had a thread about this awhile back: http://www.bikeforums.net/folding-bikes/943005-have-you-tried-h-s-folding-handlebars.html

xtasy folding handlebar

doppelganger bicycle folding handlebar

there are others, i'm sure. there's probably a solution for you located somewhere in this pile of searches...

there's also this: looks a bit iffy....

I actually like that design. There's very little chance of a threaded coupler failing in this instance.

ttakata73 01-05-16 08:32 AM

I like the coupler idea too but they made the links plastic.
That is bound for trouble unless you weigh 20 kg or something.

BassNotBass 01-05-16 09:18 AM

Plastic?! Granted it can be strong (1980's Corvettes used plastic [FRP] leaf springs) but yeah, I couldn't feel good about it in that handlebar.

smallwheeler 01-05-16 12:13 PM

although it doesn't solve tds101's problem i thought this was pretty cool also. i can't remember where i found this image and reverse image search only linked back to my original post. realistically, this is probably a somewhat heavy and clunky arrangement but the air hose coupler is a better idea than the threaded aluminum one above.

OK, now THIS one looks strong!!! I could work with this bit of excellence. Though,...having a folding stem would be a bit more "practical" in my case. Still,...this would be an attention getter!!!

Never seen a airframe folding bike used on busy roads as supposed to be auwful. Chain falls off etc.
Interesting to see back to front drops fitted. Must be to avoid complicated folding bar arrangement
Now this is a "bikes we like "thread, Airframe: really. the poster should add a disclaimer....
Great photo however.

Funny to carry a bare (air) frame on an airframe. Accidental irony..

cpg 01-21-16 11:45 AM

One of my friends has an airframe, he broke it the first time he sat on it due to him being too heavy for it. I am yet to see one in the flesh so dont want to be too critical of it until I have.

I also like the Tyrells! That is the proper way to triangulate a lowered top tube design, as opposed to the Cannondales and others I've maligned that have the ridiculous interrupted frame tubes.

i think there are good reasons why you dont see many...
flex, riding postion, chain line , folds poorly,
i have seen one riden. possibly by owner taking it to recycling facility.

i see your point cpg, some bikes can be made ok with mods.
i think there is a limit to reenginnering silk purses from designers sows ears.
