Puncture-proof 20" tires?
Hello
I searched the archives but didn't find much recommendation for 20" puncture-proof tires (47-406). Besides the Schwalbe Marathon Plus (that are a pain to fit in), are there other brands + models I should check? They'll mostly be to ride in the city, rain or shine. Thank you. |
Thats what I am using, Schwalbe Marathon Plus, +I put heavy duty thorn resistant tubes in too , weigh more ,
but not a lot more, because they're in a a 20" size. But they hold the firm riding air pressure for months.. |
Hi,
Tyres have various puncture resistances / protection, none are puncture proof. The Schwalbe Road Cruiser is a good all round high value budget tyre with kevlar puncture protection, reflective sidewalls and less than half the price of Marathons. Got one on the front, Schwalbe Tracer on the rear. No punctures in 8 months, 1500+ miles. rgds, sreten. |
If you're willing to live with a rougher ride and more weight 20" o-rings are as puncture proof as you can get. They're pricey but very long wearing = good value.

Will probably go with marathon on my Friday also because I want to stay with 1.5". Gotta do something soon because my front (Haro!?) is completely worn down and squared off. |
Of course you can buy puncture proof tyres, but not sure how they roll. They are discussed regularly in the forums. Some peopel think the most important is no punctures and are willing to trade that for slightly slower roll. Some want speed and or comfort and do not mind fixing a flat.

Thanks. So it looks like Schwalbe is the only game in town for 20" wheels, either Marathon Plus or Road Cruiser.

Hi,
http://www.sjscycles.co.uk/schwalbe-...06)-prod31681/ I don't know the best French sites for discounted good tyres. rgds, sreten. |

was out on a ride today and saw a Dahon with the exact tire I wanted to buy, the marathon in 20x1.5". It sure looks like a narrow tire, especially the contact patch. I may decide to bump up to 1.75", which opens up the Road Cruisers for consideration. Can't find any reviews for that though. I assume it's a new tire.
went off-road quite a bit today, even some climbing. was really surprised how well the Friday did. Definitely want a tire that accommodates that. |
Ok. Now I had to go back and listen to the soundtrack. In the process I found this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qqpcBpSsj1A (more sound) and this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=neocHYtz6yw
Note to self: Stay away from Youtube! |

I'm interested if there are better alternatives to my 451 Duranos, which seem solid but I've trashed a couple of them by impacts (grates, railroad tracks, etc)?

I've a Road Cruiser on the front and a near slick on the back. Off road I'd use it on the rear and something else on the front. (Though it is combined with the near slick rear to give more front grip in adverse conditions, and both cope with mild off road hard packed conditions very well, but the rear won't take slippy soft conditions, the front isn't a lot better.) rgds, sreten. Nice tyre for the very budget price I got it for. Kevlar puncture protection and reflective sidewalls. Rolls well pumped up to optimum on Tarmac. Grip is good. Mileage I'm not likely to find out with one on the front. On the front loads. |
